Not sure how I'd trust that "Omnilock" wrench. Looks just like a pair of battery pliers; which I mostly use on crusted/rounded nuts.  Here's a photo stolen from eBay of those similar to mine (mine are Champion Dearment, the forerunner of Channellock)

Interesting concept.

I actually ordered a tool for testing this morning that also had a ratchet type feature.  I can't recall what it was called, but I'll be sure to post about it when (if  ::)) it arrives.

I have always wanted a ratchet function in a multitool.

Yes, I remember that too. Just checked and it didn't seem to have made it there. Good for them if they found other ways to the market. There are some interesting concepts there.

Not sure how I'd trust that "Omnilock" wrench.

The angle of attack and leverage seems different? Without looking too much the grip part seems more similar to those one size fits all wrenches or the Knipex Raptor pliers.

I ordered one. The Kickstarter never went. They claim Indegogo gave them a better deal. It’ll be interesting to see how well it works.

You must start to let manufacturers know about MTo. Make sure you let them know that sending you a free tool for testing doesn't gives them an automatic  :tu:, but they'll get a honest review and maybe some ideas on how to improve their product.

Any manufacturer that has been around for a while knows that we exist.  Most of the independent stuff we are seeing nowadays is stuff that people are designing for their own needs and trying to apply to a mass market without considering that their needs may be unique.  After putting their effort into it, they don't want feedback from others who may not share their vision.

As a result, they don't do any research, they don't find us and then they complain that we don't review their stuff.  There was one particular tool that did approach us, sent me some samples for review but were so godawfully bad that that I couldn't bring myself to actually publish a review for it.

Don't waste money on a LighterBro.

Beyond that, I generally buy tools to review because no one wants to give away a tool to find out it isn't as good as they think it is.

I think it’s a bad product. I’ve just watched the guy turning that bolt for 10 minutes and not get anywhere.  :dunno:

:D

Personally I got bored watching that after a few seconds. It went on for another 10 minutes?

Beyond that, I generally buy tools to review because no one wants to give away a tool to find out it isn't as good as they think it is.

I guess there is also the risk of the test sample being hand picked and groomed for a positive review - buying review samples like any other user is better in that regard.

Just stumbled over the ad too. The Indiegogo link will tell you that shipping of pre-ordered tools won't happen until December 2019.
The concept looks interesting, if a bit clunky - I like the idea of being able to join or separate the two halves depending on needs...

The Toler Union has a lot going for it.   A dedicated bolt/hex wrench with full-length handle, a full-size 1/4 inch hex drive with on-board bits and bit extender, decent wood and metal saws, an awl / file, a clip point blade, and a spring-loaded plier.  Being a larger multitool and with the ability to apply more torque, it is much closer to full-size tool abilities.  One of my basic gripes about multitools on the market today is that there are a lot of compromises when using them; the Union significantly lessens those compromises in my opinion.  Has a great gadget-factor and high-quality look.  Also appears to have modability and replaceable parts - oh yeah!

Rather than the usual folding plier with tools in the handles (so glad the designer didn't go down that all-too-familiar road again), this is a paradigm shift away from that and towards greater usefulness and practicality.  The designer looks like a think-outside-the-box type of guy.  Very good job so far.

Basic price $104 or with sheath $125.  If it works as advertised, this is also a very decent deal.  I think this may be my next purchase!

Some minor but decent improvements are evident:

1)  Plier head with additional contouring to match up with modified plier handle
2)  Black oxide coated bit driver
3)  Thumb slide for wrench jaw (not a new feature but a finalized design).
4)  Built-in magnets to hold both sides of tool together, yet release easily using thumb to separate.
5)  Choice of black or brown leather pouch.
6)  Large pin above bit holder (don't know the purpose of this feature)

Very cool !     It also has pocket clips so it can be carried either in one piece or split to distribute the weight.

None have shipped yet, it's been delayed a bit. The first batch should be shipping fairly soon.

Looks like the round shiny piece stuck inside the knife-side handle is the magnet which holds both sides together.  Since the black sides of the wrench are made of aluminum, the magnet would need to mate up to one of the steel screws holding the aluminum plate in place.

Looking forward to a review as soon as the first batch starts shipping soon.

According to the comments on the indiegogo site, Toler changed Chinese manufacturers about 5 months ago in a move which upgraded the quality substantially.  The same manufacturer already makes parts for other quality multitool companies here in the US.

The whole process of a multitool company from design concept to financing to the start of manufacturing is so interesting....I give Mike a lot of credit for what he's doing.

I would absolutely give THIS a try before I spend $$ on any of the FREE models! I will hold out till this tool is available. I really like the horizontal sheath too.

I love my Free P4 a lot, but I am very excited for this one too. Hopefully it comes to me sooner rather than later!
