The Dream EDC Multitool Setup. One isn't enough.

I am really curious what other think would be their ideal setup. Not just stock multitools, use your imagination!

for me its 3 tools:

#1 Victorinox Manager (stock)

basically the perfect tool in every way.

#2 Leatherman single handle Charge

Outside:
* S30V Blade
* Leatherman Saw

Inside (locking Side):
*Rebar File (better wood file imo)
*Rebar Awl
*Wave large flat driver (modified into a chisel)

Inside (non-locking)
*Leatherman bit exchanger

#3 Leatherman Signal

*Havalon scalpel blade instead of the combo blade
*And the rest of the tools standard.

I need a multi-tool without a blade for my work. This lets me have the best of both worlds.

Whats your dream setup, with fantasy tools that don't exist yet?

Cheers,
H.G.

At work, these are what I usually carry. I use a light work belt at work. It's essentially just a pouch and sheath with a heavier belt.. These are stuffed rather descreetly into them. Seldom exposed. Along with 2 terminal screwdrivers and a small torch, some stationerys. The larger tool for the heavier pliers, is usually on rotation, most of the time will have a driver or some sort. The OG Charge  :P takes care of most light duty and oho action for light cutting task. EAB for cardboards. The Scissors Juice is incredibly good for cable ties and copper wire cutting. The modified blade as a back up with a scallop for wire stripping.

Why wait? If what you want doesn't exist, mod something and create it  :D

I want a laser cutter in my MT. A light saber will do too.

The only thing I wish I could get in a MT that I have yet to see is a decent set of Diagonal Cutters and Ideal Flex type Strippers.
So usually I will carry a MT and both in a dedicated tool, there is just no good way around this for me.
I love the ES4 strippers but they are not enough at the same time usually for me.
There is no real stand in for my Klein Dikes either.

I made my Charge into as close as I can currently get to my wishes.

What would I still change? Quite a lot actually.

Change out the saw for one from a SAK, 93mm model or longer if it would fit. The SAK saw is so much better, I don't like pull only saw configurations.
Comfortable rounded scales with the screws inset in the handles (would require different style of screw), I find the Charge handles and especially the screws to be hand chewers with any hard work.
Pliers from a Surge.
Same blade but in FFG
Thin out the flat blade screwdriver slightly towards the tip for better prying.

I could do all of this to be honest but it wouldn't be that easy or cheap. Especially the blade regrind.

I really love modding so hearing all this info from people is really really interesting. I wonder if there is room for a Leatherman style modding service in the market. The inter-compatibility between the tools is just extraordinary.

I so agree, why cant we get some true wire snip based multi-tool? Like a Surge size version of the ES4????!?!

OK...so SOG couldn't do it, but leatherman could crush this out of the park imo.

looks like these guys might have one:

SOG had diagonal cutters almost in production several years back but never released them :dunno: they must have had more problems with them than they wanted to deal with but our own Bob (J-sews) took a pair of regular ones and fit them on a power lock frame (not sure if it was that model or not) and they looked awesome :dd: whe. I have some more time I will look for the thread that he had of this mod :salute:

That would be awesome, I think the better diagonal cutter Mod would be a way to extend the leverage arms by folding out extensions similar to the mini-tool by leatherman. Having extra leverage would be very very useful imo.

On a side note, I think I changed my mind about my blade-less tool of choice. I think I will be modding my Rebar, there is just so much more room for tools in such a small body. Not sure what items just yet.

Cheers,
H.G.
