Trying something different for pocket carry...
on: January 07, 2019, 11:03:08 AM
This new JE Made Knife has a “lanyard” hole. The hole is actually there to insert a tool during assembly/disassembly to take pressure off the spring to allow the rear Chicago screw barrel to be removed/replaced.

I am using it to attach a plastic pocket clip.   I used paracord like a rivet. I melted and pancaked each end to keep it from coming thru.

Just messing around. Will see how it holds up. I did not want to make a nice lanyard because it would need cut off or untied if I ever wanted to take the knife apart.

I first tried knots but wasn’t happy.

What do you think??  :-)

Interesting... hmm, isn't that a little bit too rigid when you sit down?
Cheers!

I don’t think it will be, but I’ll find out late this afternoon when I get up for work. I’m in PJs now so couldn’t test it yet.

It’s basically just a dangler. I’m using the paracord instead of a split ring as on a SAK.

It’s an experiment. See how it goes.

On a side note, I used the washer you sent me in my Boker last night. Helped a lot. I was just using the lanyard ring which was a tad too thick.  Thanks again for the parts!!

Unique idea for a clip.  :tu:
I would be afraid the end of the para cord will eventually come loose. Then as you pull the knife out it will find it's way to a concrete floor.  :ahhh
I would feel more comfortable with a loop, more like a regular dangler.

I thought the same thing when I saw it.........it is a cool idea, but I would keep a close watch on the end of the para cord.

Trying something different for pocket carry...

Ok, time for an update...

As of tonight, the set up was holding up just fine. Probably would have been fine for continued use as it was. However, I didn’t like the way it looked or felt when trying to put it back into my pocket.

So I gave a seriously hard twisting yank and it did pop out of the hole. I could easily reheated the end and got it back thru the hole, but I was ready for something different.

After playing around with different ideas, I went old fashioned. Used paracord to make a lanyard and stuck the knife into a small sheath meant for my Pioneer X.

It fits fine. The snap has to be pulled a bit to engage but nothing too bad. It will also fit into my old Leatherman PST nylon sheath.

The lanyard helps to retrieve it from either sheath, or easily located should I decide to drop it into my pocket.

Will try this set up for awhile and see how it goes!!

Looks like a great set-up zrxoa1! :like: :tu: :tu:

That should be a lot more comfortable to use.

I like the fact that you experiment with different options until you find the one that works best. :D

That's looks like it will work better for you.
I've got 2 or 3 with very simple fobs and it does helps in removing them from their sheath.

Put the JE Made to good use tonight after work. Used it to help with my snack... stuffed pepper and BoJangles biscuit.

I like to fool around with carry options.  Its a great way to see if what is currently being used is optimal.  A few times I've tried something then gone back to my original way then back again  :dunno:.  Experimentation keeps things interesting.
