Should be an interesting discussion. I will have to think about what components I would want on a "dream" multitool. However, I know what I would NOT want-scissors. I can not stand scissors on a mt. In fact, I will not buy a tool that has scissors. If I need something cut, the mt will have a knife blade, or I could use the one or two knives that I always have on me.Ken
I think the Vic Spirit is near ideal all around for me but could use replaceable cutters..
I'll second your thoughts on the S30V blade. I chose my Charge TTi for a few reasons and the blade was one. Blade exchanger. What a dream for me. I can swap out different saw blades for whatever material I am cutting. Lots of options when one implement has such a wide range of utility. Signal hammer. I don't know of another MT that has a hammer? While you wont pound 16p nails into studs it sure goes a long way when a small utility hammer is needed. We hung a lot of art on our walls so trust me a small hammer is a good thing. Victorinox MT chisel. What a great tool to have on a MT. So much so that I turned my LM flat driver into one for my Surge.
its good average, but would you rather have s30v blade or the one in the spirit? don't think of space constraints either. On a side note I think the Vic Spirit Flat driver is the best PRY BAR in a multi-tool. Other than dedicated prybar tool obviously..(Image removed from quote.)thoughts?
Hell yes! But I think there way to many factors just besides tools. Don't catch me wrong, the Swisstool and Spirit are well made tools, but I rather take a kick in the ball sack than trying to use them again. They are too damn shiny. Just the little bit of diesel, oil or grease gets on them, you can't hold onto them. And for smurfs sakes they happen to fall into dirt while they are oily. That said, they are so damn mint. 100% pure craftsmanship. But they don't work for me. Now the LM Surge is the one for me. However it does have it's faults. It does have a better chance to rust, possibly of loosing bits and etc. But I have had Vic's stuff rust on me too. The Surge ticks so many boxes for me and it is not just the tools and OHO blades.I don't know, I think you are on the right track H.G., but way to many variables, likes and dislikes.Maybe I am missing your point also.
Yea, I was going for something a little different. I wasn't suggesting this was about picking the best current tool that has a majority of the best components. What I am suggesting is that we imagine a MYTICAL tool that has ONLY the best of the best in every respect. AKA the best blade, the best plier, the best scissor, the best unique features (like the Vic 4 in 1 and the Surge exchanger). Size is no option, what I am trying to do is get to the nano level. I feel like a resource that, as a community, we put forward with the best in class components might help other decide how to invest their money. It might sway ppl from one tool or another. However, because there are just so many components to talk about...it would be easier to break it down into categories and do them one at a time. Starting with bladed components. At the end I am going to make some really silly visual representation of this MYTICAL Tool using some photoshop magic. So far I think Charge TTi Blade is in the lead for STRAIGHT BLADE. Any challengers?Cheers,H.G.

Scissors - Surge, 91mm SAK/Swisstool Flat Blades - S30VSerrated blades - Awl - Safety Cutters -Saws -etc..Chisel - Spirit/Swisstool
as far as blades go my favorite is the straight blade on my swiss army forester, i use it all the time while fishing its great for cutting bait, and locks strong, its my number one bladeas far as scissors go im partial to the pst 2 and og wave scissorsbut most of all id say is the philips head on my rebar, i swear i use that thing three or four times a day
I always forget about the OG wave scissors..That is the crazy thing about scissors, there are just so many categories for best in class, and each one has a separate purpose...the 58 mm vic scissors are the best hygine scissors I have ever used. The OG wave has one of the most capable scissors in a small package, the Surge has one of the toughest scissor out there, the 91mm vic has best overall performance and shape imo, the Craftsman 10 in 1 can probably tackle the toughest materials as a shear. I mean...we could spend 10 pages just talking about scissors probably. maybe we can hold off on the scissor discussion for now, I have no idea where to start on categorizing them. Also I was thinking about it, I want to include a bunch of info on each tool. I can't do that with that single image idea. Instead I think I am going to make a series of individual images, possibly ones that would be useful for the wiki so that we can have a lot of info in a really small area. Example coming soon.
The Pioneer X has two best in class tools:Scissors, sharp, well formed, each is a piece of art,Reamer/awl, works really well, but I'm not sure how it would fit into an MT.
