Saved a Leatherman
on: December 12, 2008, 12:44:10 AM
Near the end of the night at the bar last Saturday I spotted a beat up old LM PST sheath on the floor, so I quickly scooped it up and put it in my pocket.  Part of me was elated at the thought of a new toy since there was little chance I'd find the owner, and part of me felt bad that someone lost their trusted old friend.

As the bar cleared out I had a chance to look at it, and noticed that the initials of a regular member scratched into it.  So, now I had a mission to help it get back to it's rightful owner, and as I felt a little disappointed at the loss of a new toy, I was happy it would find it's way home.  The sound man at the bar is also the regular's boss at their day jobs, so I hoped he hadn't left yet.  Needless to say, the look on his face when I handed him the tool and asked him to return it to the rightful owner spoke volumes about how upset and lost this poor guy would have been without it.

Judging by the condition of it, this old PST was used every day for all manner of things, and even though he could have gotten a new tool, this PST could never be replaced.

It's just lucky I spotted it and not someone else who wouldn't have returned it or even known who it belonged to.

I once found 50 $ on the dance floor when I worked security on a boat trafficking Norway – Denmark. Needles to say that I put it in my pocket since finding the owner was useless. Butt I have found expensive mobile phones and bags with lots of money on the streets and always returned it too the owner……………..It’s always good to here that there is still some honest people in this world that is becoming more and more dishonest.

Very nice of you, Def! I once found a wallet with 1500 cash at BJ's. Regardless, I found the owner, and he didn't even thank me. If that was me, I would have given whoever found it at least $100!

My first MT, an old PST, was a finders-keepers thing. My sisters found in by the side of a road when they were sledding. I convinced them to let me have it by trading a CD and checking with the only house nearby to see if it was thiers. They had no idea what it was, so it became mine. :D

Most of the time if something is lost (especially loose cash) it's pretty well impossible to find the owner and so it really is finder's keepers, but in this case I knew the owner and know that he would probably appreciate having it back more than I would appreciate having yet another PST in the stable.

Kind of makes you wonder how many of these get lost every day!

Bags with lots of money? Wouldn't something like that belong to criminals or something?

The real question is...why did he remove his belt in the middle of the bar?

Nice work though Def, I would have done the same...I think we've got enough multitools to last a lifetime, no need to keep someone elses :tu:
