Cowardly shootings in Christchurch, NZ.
on: March 15, 2019, 10:23:51 AM
A piece or pieces of smurf went on a shooting rampage at two Mosques in my old hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand today. The death toll so far is 49.
I'm sure worse things happen around the world and no one blinks an eye, but this is not the NZ I know.
I don't really know what to say.

This is not the New Zealand I know.
I walked past Masjid Al Noor earlier this week.
My family is safe at home but I know of others that aren't...

terrible stuff, and right on the heels of the Brazil school shooting, I know we're in an era of maximum coverage, but things seem to be getting worse.

Horrible stuff.

I don't even know what to say.  This is absolutely abhorrent.

I just woke up a little while ago and this is the first thing I hear.  I hope the smurfs that are responsible and punished to the full extent of the law.  And then some.

I have seen it too. Please do not share it, do not give it any oxygen. Please also ask others not to share it.

Some of the victims are refugees from war-torn countires who came here for a better, more peaceful life.

I refused to share it anyway!

Ethicaly wrong, people might see family/beloved ones get shot.

I'd rather forget it... not been feeling myself after it and I only saw parts...

Yuk!

I just finished reading the news article on this horrendous shooting. I was taken a little aback that it happened in New Zealand. Condolences to all involved...including New Zealand.

As for the video...thanks for the warning. I wasn't aware there was one circulating. I am sorry you saw it Mechanickal. I know I sure wouldn't want to see it. Hopefully the police will have it.

smurfing TV news.  Makes me glad I don't have regular TV anymore.

I'm surprised those smurfholes haven't plastered it across every channel to try and get better ratings.  smurf them.  smurf them right in the smurf.

Very sad indeed.

+1

I think here would be less of these shootings and similar happenings if such lunatics got put away quietly and anonymously instead of getting a wave of publicity about themselves and whatever fanatic reasoning they use to excuse their actions. For some the media is likely a big motivator. Personally I'd hope the media would stick to fact reporting and focusing on the victims if they need human stories. Just let the lunatics go very quietly to whatever darkness they deserve instead of making them into bizarre celebs over the bodies of innocents.

One of the recent school shootings in the US was roughly 20 miles down the road from my house.

I am saddened that this has happened again and that it happens anywhere.  My condolences to the families and everyone in NZ.   :salute:

Fear and hate mongering are pulling at the delicate threads of humanity. The worst part is that the tragedy won't likely be the last. My condolences to the loved ones of the victims. :(

On a less emotional, (you might say cold) note - This might end up being NZ's Port Arthur - Goodbye NZ's relaxed(ish) firearms laws, thanks to one nutter.

Maybe not though, NZ has always been better at sensible responses to things, they may very well simply deal with the criminal, assist the community, and move on with their lovely country that bravely sticks to it's own beliefs instead of trying to please other governments and issue driven folks.

Firearms laws were tightened up after the Aramoana tragedy, I can't tell you exactly how but I believe it was to do with military-style weapons.
Currently firearms owners here require a license; perhaps one day the firearms themselves will need to be registered. Whether the shooter's weapons were legally obtained or not I don't know.
