Windows 10 has consumed my 'C' drive - Help
on: March 17, 2019, 10:39:35 PM
Sorry if this has been asked before

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook
120GB SSD

It works fine, partly because I try to keep nothing on it.

It gets used for my sons homework (online) nothing is stored or saved on the laptop

I only use it for web browsing or viewing my pictures
Again, hardly anything is on the machine itself. I checked earlier 223 pictures (448mb)

Besides Win10 OS 64bit
There is AVG FREE running

That is all that's downloaded I looked earlier to see how much free space was left...12 GB!!

I'm struggling to work out how the OS can consume 106 GB

Can anyone explain what has gone wrong.
The laptop updated itself on the 10/3/19 prior to which there was more than half spare storage on the C drive.

I'm completely baffled

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

That seems way too large for just windows 10, usual size is between 20-30 gigs, i suspect that windows backup files are eating your free space on C: drive.

I had a client that needed our software package some time ago.

The C disk was jammed full... on a server based system...

Turned out that an error caused the "temp" folder to clutter up with logs ranging between 60Mb and 150Mb each.
Might want to check there...

Yup, temp files and backup files can swallow everything like a black hole.  :ahhh
Double check before you delete anything though.   ;)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I think it's more than likely it's the backups it makes when they version patch. Similar thing happened on my wife's PC where her system drive is a 100GB SSD.

There are tools like https://www.bleachbit.org/ that will clear out a lot of those files. However, unless you're having space problems I wouldn't let lose too quickly with a tool like that.

Maybe work through a list like this first: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/12425/windows-10-free-up-drive-space

It can take a while to work through. Also you can manually force your web browsers to dump their own cache (all time) which sometimes is what might be using up way more space than you expect.

The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.
