Ron Who - Day 1 - Presenting my selection for this challenge

Yes I know I´m late for the party and I don´t know whether I´ll make it, but I want that traditional badge  :D

Top to bottom a Solingen hunting folder by Hubertus (Germany), a trapper by Böker (Germany), and a Laguiole by Forge de Laguiole (France).

Great to have you join in    :tu:

"Apparently"  developed after the US Civil War for soldiers who had lost an arm. The shape allows one hand opening by catching the tip on the corner of a pocket or edge of something.

Known as a One arm Bandit or razor knife and I say apparently as I don't think there is any definitive proof that this is the case.   :dunno:

Happy Indepencance Day, folks.

Had to get out before the sun hit the porch today.  Wanted to finish up a few basket hat pins.  (Still need to epoxy on the pin backs)

A few meetings, a bit of skiving and a hot lunch date with Mrs Fuzzy today. Apart from opening a few letters and the like, not much use today.

How is that Grohmann working out for you? Great I hope!

Working out great so far, really liking this one, it's losing its edge a bit now though but will give it strop in the morning and should be good to go :tu:

Today however it got a day off, to mark the 4th i thought it would be fun to carry a US made folder, one i hadn't carried since i was a fool in April, and when i picked it up it was like meeting an old friend  :D

Happy 4th to all on the other side of the water

I had a good dig through my toy box and found another American icon, a bit worse for wear but still easily recognisable   :tu:

Thanks Steve

Thank you, Steve!

That's also the reason why I want to try out this knife, to see how well it works with one hand opening.  I have yet to figure out a way to open that one-arm blade with fingers, but it's easy to open when latching onto corner of my pocket.

And Ron, welcome to the challenge!  :waving:

I've heard this too, it might have been developed by Wolstenholm, but like you Steve, I don't have any proof of that either. It seems to always be referred to, in regard to blade shape, as a razor in the old catalogues, but I wonder if that description is just down to marketing laziness? It would be good to find something in writing.
