I have to admit Fuzzy, you're frequently putting up quite a nice cuisine  :hatsoff:
And here I thought ya scotts eat fried Mars bars or keech lorraine  :dunno:

Never had a deep fried mars bar, nor a deep fried curly-wurly... I have had a deep fried pizza though... Once... Never... ever... again.

Day 24
Used the Utica Trapper to trim my dogs treat.
(Image removed from quote.)
A 6in bully usually gets chewed on over few days.  So I put it away overnight, then if I trim just a little off the chewed end, he gets all excited over his “new” treat.

Yes, he is spoiled.  But why have a dog if your not going to spoil it?

You used a spay blade to feed your dog treats!  :o... Is he a boy?... You sick sick puppy!

Fire Challenge.

This is about as close as I can get here in mid summer. Having had to Bug Out for real due to a forest fire, yeah, fire safety outdoors in the the dry season is a very real thing.

First we make a bunch of wood shavings.

Then we use the knife to fluff up some homemade quarter inch waxed jute. This stuff lights very easily from a firesteel and lasts a good long while. Really easy to make. Buy jute and put in melted Ikea tealights. Jobs a good'un.

I've not made fire with a firesteel for a while. Good to keep your hand in I suppose but I'd take a mini bic any day to be honest. I have them in every bag, every coat and always in my trousers. I have UCO Storm matches in my bags for any real weather problems.

Two strikes and we're alight. I never have such good luck with a firesteel out in the woods.

and caught on nicely.

Conclusion: The knife sucked for this job. I don't know why but the blade just wouldn't catch and bite into the wood. I've had it thinned out to make a wicked slicer but I've no idea if that's why it didn't seem to work on the wood. Kept sliding along rather than biting in. I've checked, it's razor sharp, that wasn't the problem. The other problem was the second (closed) blade kept digging into my hand with the pressure. I'm going to try making shavings out of that wood with an Opinel which is even thinner to see how it copes. I did try half way through with my camp knife and wow, that was so much easier. Proper big hand filling handle and a blade which bit straight into the wood. Was a joy to use in comparison.

It was just to trim off the unwanted parts of the treat.

You kidding, he was neutered over four years ago and still acts like he has the biggest set around.  He doesn’t care what type of dog or how big.

Sorry that the Buck proved to be tricky for shaving wood.    :-\

Now I'll have to try with my Stockman.

But that does qualify you for ICC #2!

I just ran a test on the same wood to see why my Buck sucked so badly. It's the thin blade. It doesn't have the rigidity to cut at the angle you are trying to use. It flexes and glances off when trying to slice feather stick style.  I had the same thing with my Opinel. My SAK was a better, it's thicker than either and the spear edge is thicker along the length. I tried another fixie, a little one this time. Worked great. Despite being thinned to about 0.018" behind the edge on both fixies, they have the general rigidity to cut into the wood exactly as you're intending. I can see why the SAK Farmer is considered a superior outside pocket knife. The thicker blade really makes sense if you're going to use it on wood. I've very little outdoors experience but this has been a good lesson. An incredible urban EDC grind might be useless once you leave civilisation.

EDIT: Just tried a Pioneer Pruner main blade on the wood (my Farmer is in the car and I can't be bothered getting it). The blade is far superior to any of the other folding knives I've mentioned above. Almost on par with the smaller fixie. Despite still having a pretty slicey blade. Ergo a 93mm SAK is the best all round EDC. You heard it here.

Nice use.

I like my SPAM in a grilled cheese sandwich.  The Jalepeno is good too.

I haven't had Spam for a while now, but it's yummy stuff. Spam grilled cheese sounds great. I used to make Spam sandwiches, but never thought to take it to the grilled cheese level.

Spam fried-rice is pretty good, too!
