Which surfaces were polished on that, that weren't on the brushed finish versions?

I've seen some where only the handles and pliers were the polished.

Thanks Steve. Do you know if they were mods or factory ones?

Thanks Steve

I don't necessarily want to try to recreate what the factory did, so I might just stick to the handles. For now at least. It's a long tedious job by hand as it is. I giving picking it up and spending a while at it, and still only got two handle pieces done with 600 grit. The brushed finish really does hide a lot of surface deviation.

When you say polished do you mean a mirror polish ? because I've never seen a factory Sideclip with a mirror polish. I've only seen the Satin bead blasted finish which is most common and the brushed finish like the PSTand OG ST, less common.

Maybe not a completely flawless mirror finish, but yes, a decent polish. I'm only, using 600 grit to get it to a base condition before moving to micromesh. Moving to misromesh straight away would leave in a lot of the anomalies.

The bead blast finish is quite uneven, particularly on the rule and around the edges. On the flat section, there's like a raised edge around the periphery, and various little blemishes that I might not remove entirely, but am trying to minimise. It's taking several hours of elbow grease to smooth out the irregularities, and get it ready for polishing.

Pics
1) before/during/after 600 grit
2) surface defects
3) raised edges
4) rule before and after

That looks good already. I did one with metal polish only, no sanding. Be warned, every touch shows up.  If you have ocd it will become a lovely show piece   :D
