I go through phases of sticking mainly to one knife, but the one I keep coming back to is the Wenger Traveler - but not necessarily the same one. I used to have more of them, but these four were the ones I reached for the most often, so I let the others go. I also have a mod which adds an inline Phillips and carabiner.

Mello Yellow is probably my 'go-to' SAK.  It's an EVO, that just rocks!  8)

Very nice, eTrip! :like:

Been thinking about an Evo recently. The yellow and black looks great on that tool.

I carry an Explorer at work and off work, a Rambler on my key chain and a Cybertool 41 takes care of most of the small tasks around the house. That bit driver is brilliant for the battery doors on kids' toys.

Work: TH Trailmaster. Longer blade and saw than 84mm/85mm/91mm. Prybar flat SD. Great handling comfort.

Kitchen: Explorer. Can and bottle openers for, ah, opening cans and bottles. Blades and scissors for opening sachets and bags. Flat and Phillips screwdrivers for tightening handle and lid screws on pots. Magnifier for reading ingredient lists in small print.

Keyring: Rambler. Nail file. Scissors for fine cutting. #0/1 Phillips SD.

Everywhere else: Swisschamp. The jack of all trades! Complete with all scale tools. Nearly always in a pocket. I have a safety pin attached to the keyring.

The Soldier has been dropped from daily carry - for the time, perhaps.

My Go to was for long my SwissChamp out and about, now it's SwissChamp at home and CT41 out, rarely have drivers with me. Spirit travels out as a backup but I Find the SAK more comfortable for most things, especially as scissors are the most used implement.

That's a very nice knife, it was one of my considerations for my nephew, but it's surely priced as a very nice knife as well.

Is there a reason that you prefer these non-traditional scales? Does the Wenger Buck have stronger Back Springs than the reg cellidor ? The only drawback I can find what the traveler is weak Ish back Springs and there is a little bit of play usually in the nail file especially

Your "Go To" SAK
Reply #167 on: April 15, 2019, 09:49:07 AM
These days my “go-to-SAK” is an tougher choice...

For a few years, it has been my Wenger SI. I love it. Can’t stay away from it!

This month I am involved in the Buck 110 challenge and have not carried my beloved SI.

It has a few bumps and bruises but I still love it.

I have been wanting to start a new life with my OC Pioneer. I plan to start carrying it on May 1, after this Buck challenge ends.

Just not sure I want to bang it around at work. I want it to get used. I want to carry it so much that the red wears off and it gets that beautiful pocket carried patina...

It has not been used much, if at all. While I’m not a big fan of shelf queens and cannot ever see myself selling it, I do hesitate due to its pristine condition.

Now one SAK that I will leave as a shelf queen and keep forever is my BY SAK.

Actually, I have a second forever shelf queen. My black Pioneer with red shield. Love it’s looks too much to chance losing or damaging it!

Which bring me to my final 3 current shelf queens. Three Pioneers Xs.

The Swiss Bianco and MT.O PXs will go back on the shelf as well. I bought the SB unit because it was offered at a can’t turn it down price.

The MT.O PX was supposed to become my daily carry. I have a standard silver PX (with key ring nub removed) but silver is boring... unless it has a bail!!! Haha. Anyway, I have just had a hard time chancing damage to it.

That leaves the SAK Collectors Blue PX.  Another one that I hate to damage. None of those PXs can be replaced.

For work I have no need for a PX. Too much bulk and weight for my pocket at work. I have access to scissor at work so no need.

While the Buck 110LT has been a terrific knife for this month’s challenge, I dearly miss having a SAK in my pocket.

I have several nice SAKs in 111mm and 91mm flavors, but none of them feel “right”.

The 93mm alox is my choice. The SI does everything I need, but I feel a longing to carry the red OC Pioneer.

So while I might start carrying it in May, the honest answer here is my go to SAK will always be my SI. There is a bond that exists between it and I. I’m sure there is no need to explain to any of you here!!!

I might carry the SI for work, remaining my “work go-to SAK” while reserving the red OC for anything outside of work. Around the house, going to eat or the movies, etc.

Sorry for the long ramble. It’s late and I’m bored. Haha!!!

I have a few I would choose from, from highest to lowest:

Outrider, slide lock and good tool set, I don't mind a slip joint but I prefer locking knives.

Swisschamp, its got everything you need!

Tinker, was my first many moons ago so it holds a special place in my heart

Cybertool 34, great toolset, I need to find a 41 to compare.

Since the early 70s the Champion, then after it was lost in about 2 years the SwissChamp. It was my most used tool in the HVAC business from 1971 until my retirement in 2013 & it still goes wherever I go.
I have no clue how many times I have used one to do a job but several hundred thousand times would certainly not surprise me.
For further information about it, see my signature. :hatsoff:

Just a small personal observation.  ...........I would not be at all surprised that when God created the Earth & the heavens, that the SwissChamp was the tool he used. .............. :hatsoff:

What counts the most is how useful is your knife to you.

Everybody has his or her preferences.

For me it's "Everyday Eleven Layers" (EEL). That means my XLT. Very useful and also a little bit heavy.

Nice alox out there btw!

As it is perfect on my job as a telco lineman, I carry the Trekker (serrated version), and also a Craftsman.   I tend to alternate some days between the Craftsman and one of the Marlboro Outdoorsman's that I added some plus scales to.  If I'm headed fishing or hunting (or just a hike), I usually have either my Rangergrip 58 Hunter or Rangergrip 178.  (When fishing I also have a Fisherman attached to my vest on one of those little Nite Ize S hooks).
