Price Check on Sailing Tool

I've always wanted one of these, but unfortunately, was a little late to the party. I wasn't aware the tool, or even West Marine existed until long after the tool's discontinuation. There is one listed as used at $89 on eBay right now. Seller claims "good condition"; but by my standards, for a tool made within the past 20 years (actually 10 I think) it's rough, neglected, and abused. Blade tip is chipped and rust is EVERYWHERE. As if it's been something someone left in their boat or tackle box for years and didn't care. In my opinion, with normal use, it's incredibly hard for a highly polished stainless steel item to rust unless exposed to chemicals or sea water.
No way, to me, is this tool worth $90. Maybe $40, and that is a BIG stretch. I was thinking about offering that, but the seller has removed the "OBO" option.

It’s not that great of a tool to start with. Rusted up like that he is asking way too much. If you want a good sailing knife look at the Myerchin Offshore folders.

Make a reasonable offer and explain why. Couldn't hurt to try.

Seems a lot of that is not really "rust" and could be easily cleaned with a spot of your favourite cleaner and a toothbrush....
Which makes it odd why the seller doesn't do that....
but makes it a worthy bargaining chip for why you don't want to pay top dollar -

Those clean up really well.
However the only tool I would really buy that for is the marlin spike which looks to me like the tip has been broken off.
Could you regrind it yes, but for ninety bucks yeah nar.
