Seems that the name to the Woodsman's Pal has been sold (guessing Pro Tool Industries, the original maker, went out of business), and is now the Woodman's Pal 2.0 being made by some company called Skyline Toolworks. Under Pro Tool Industries, it was always under $70. Fairly affordable. Now, they made some truly unnecessary changes to the old design, and it's suddenly $175. The added features and "Craftsman Quality" are truly unecessary for a hardworking tool, and would only appeal to those who will likely never use it.
The price is way out of something to keep in my pack or in the bed of the UTV. At the old $60-70 price, I was going to get one for the UTV, but not now. Heck even the "premium" version based off the WWII Signal Corps issue was cheaper than $175. And "heirloom quality". So what, that term means nothing. We've got brush axes that are Councils that are still going strong, and are 70-something years old. One of my favorite axes is a rehandled 100 year old Kelly double-bit.
https://www.woodmanspal.com/product/woodmans-pal-481/The tool needed should be able to cut brush and small trees around the farm. Small enough to fit in a pack or behind the seat in the UTV. I'm thinking a decent sugar cane knife and a couple Latin/South American machetes would fit the bill--what do you think?
