Need a little verification dating/identifying this SAK
on: February 21, 2024, 01:14:01 AM
So, I "think" this is an Original Super Tinker but wanted input from the good knowledgeable people on this forum.  I dug into the Wiki and here are my notes:

  • Officer Suisse tang stamp = 1973-2005
  • Vic... Rost tang stamp = 1957-1986 or 1986-2008
  • Awl with no sewing eye = pre 1985
  • Square phillips = around pre-1980
  • Philips can key = post mid-1970s
  • Original Super Tinker lacked a hook = This SAK lacks a hook

Based on the notes above and the images below, I surmise that this is an original Super Tinker, from between 1975 and 1980.  What say ye members of the forum?

Yes it is a Super Tinker.  Here it is with a Tinker in the Vic 1984 catalog.  Notice that Tinker didn't have a keyring at that time.  Best wishes.  G

Awesome!  Thanks for the input Gary!

I was considering modding this one to my liking to make it my daily carry but taking into account the vintage, I'm not sure I want to tear it apart.  I like the look of the squared off Phillips driver and the eye-less awl so I might have to go hunting for a beat up one so I don't feel bad tearing it apart.

From here:

So more like 80 (stainless steel shield - ....... looks like it is SS ) to 85 no sewing eye

* Vic... Rost tang stamp = 1957-1986 or 1986-2008 As your tang stamp has the small V

Thank you jnoxyd and Huntsman for the very good info.  I hadn't dug in deep enough yet to find these.  I could spend hours looking over all the info.

Thanks for pointing out the 'V' on the tang stamp.  I looked at both and I couldn't see what the difference was between the two.  Now I see that one has the smaller 'V'.  Perhaps I need a larger monitor for my aging eyes.  :D
