Art and engineering miniature masterpiece!  :like:

That’s a high-end German calibre that puts most Swiss brands to shame...

Considering they only make about 10 a month, it must be really special that you have one to examine!

Thanks Max!

I've had that watch a long time - and it's probably the most 'special' object that I own, for sure the one watch I would keep if I could only have one. It would take a much better photographer than I am to do it any justice.

Back when I was a real watch nut I was single and without kids...would not be possible for me now. Luckily being a SAK nut works out a lot cheaper!

I see that Dornblüth still make the model I have (99.1 - the simplest) but it costs not far from double what I paid for it now.

Been there too...before school fees and house bonds. The Dopplechronograph and Master Geographic Compressor the two I’d keep if I had to launch the rest. SAKs are a better collection option for me today and even for creative mods (used to ‘assemble’ my own Unitas 6497/8 watches for a while). And the MTo forum adds to the fun!

What do I wear today? A bit of a sleeper...GW-5000.

Very cool shot, fullenglish.

Like you, I used to be more of a watch collector, but kids' college tuition and other life expenses have a way of interfering with that interest.  And vintage watches have gone crazy. I expect they'll fall back to the stratosphere someday, but for now I'm scaling way back.

I've always been interested in Victorinox products, and bought my first VSAK about 40 years ago.  Fun to watch something just accumulate over the years and before you know it you're a "collector."

My contribution to this thread for today, my kiddo's Pentel GraphGear 1000 pencil:

I just checked out their watches. Love the design and the craftsmanship. But I will never spent so much money on a watch, because I would be afraid to scratch it just wearing it

Those are two awesome watches. JLC and IWC are two of the marques that I really respect, they have history & have stayed true to it.

Nothing wrong with a good Casio G IMO! A real watch man respects good design and functionality where he finds it.

Shameful confession: these days I don't wear a watch at all half the time. Mainly because I have worn out the straps on most of my favourites and haven't summoned up the energy or cash to get proper replacements for them. Straps gotta be right, I can't take them out on any old thing.

Nice shot - this thread is good for making us look at things afresh.

Agree about the watch market, things have got pretty silly. I'm quite glad to be out of it.

Well they definitely aren't watches to wear when you're going to be getting your hands dirty or hitting the trail. But the kind of tiny scratches to the case you get from just general wear really don't impact the look of the watch IMO. I wore mine almost every day for a number of years (office job) and it still looks fine.

Of course there is no rational or sensible reason to spend that kind of money on a watch, anyway.

Looks a bit like a microscope’s view of a fly’s compound eye. But no, this is a close-up of a computer screen, using the magnifier on my Explorer.

Taken of a white display. Shows all three LCD elements of each pixel switched on to make the colour white. Second picture shows a close up crop of the first picture.

To think there are 2 million pixels on this display...start counting.  :mail:

The impression in a National Geodetic Survey benchmark in the Adirondack Mountains.

And here's an odd outtake shot. The sun was shining so brightly, all I got was my doubled reflection.
