I wondered if anyone knows why my Opinel #8 has a standard handle, but it has the gardener blade? The knife on the bottom.
Dunno but I like it. Could be as simple as .
I would say you should definitely hold on to it. I have never seen another one like it.
I that blade shape just a little more over the regular one anyways it's a keeper but I have no idea how it came to be either
Guessing a spear point Gardener blade somehow found its way into the box for standard 8 blades.
The gardeners always have the INOX blades as far as I've ever seen so this one is a bit of a mystery
You could try contacting Opinel and send them a picture and see if they can tell you what's up.
Looking back at the pics, it may just be a model that is discontinued
Worth a try. I'll report back if I get any information. **Edit, I just sent an information request through their website.
It will be interesting to find out what they have to say.
Thanks Vicman, I'm right there with ya! **Edit: Just looked in my "junk" mailbox. This came yesterday and was flagged as junk :
That is pretty good response time.
Agreed. They did get back with me. It was a little difficult because I am writing to someone in France and we had a little difficult time with language. But ultimately the response is (and I quote),"This n°08 knife existed but now it doesn’t.It’s a carbon steel blade."It is good to know it was once offered and is genuine and not a switched out blade.
You gotta love Opinel! Great find Lisa!
Is it great news? Now we all gotta try and find one of those unicorns . Kidding, yay you.
Sounds like you got a pretty rare Opinel........great piece for your collection FB!
Speaking of collection (which my Opinel is small), this is my oldest one:
That's absolutely beautiful Lisa! Next to SAKs, Opinel is my favorite knife. In some ways, even more so. Like wine, they actually get better with age.
Very cool Opinel FB! I have never seen one with the emblem on the collar. That must be pretty old.
Great historic knives! Here’s a different collar lock emblem...not Opinel
I understand. If I wasn't into SAKs, I'd probably heavily collect Opinel or Spyderco.I was told from the person I bought it from it is 1909 or earlier.
