Leatherman BRICK series ??? (FREE series?????)
on: May 08, 2019, 11:27:16 PM
Weight comparision with same or similar functions:

Why the LM are so heavy???

Leatherman K2            138,9 g
Leatherman T2              93,6 g
Victorinox Evolutions S111   60 g
Swiza D03                            88 g
Victorinox Picknicker          105 g

Leatherman K4              155,9 g
Leatherman T4              121,9 g
Victorinox Evolution  S4       76 g
Swiza D07                          100 g
Victorinox Outrider             156 g (several more functions)

The others MTs are not very light!

Leatherman P2    >>>>>>>>>>  215,46 g
Leatherman P4    >>>>>>>>>>  243,8 g

I think for Knives I will stay with Vics and Swiza!!!
The only improvment is the pocket grip, not very useful in urban environment (best cancelled carry)

Opinions & Thoughts???
Thank you

If we talk about Pliers-based MT, then I think the pliers are what weighing down the tools, even Spirit will weight 209g and Swisstool at 290g(surely it is a much bigger MT).

But I tend to agree with you on the knife-based MT, I always thought Victorinox has always hit an optimal spot between price/quality/compactness/weight, and that is probably why it remains most popular knife MT/knife in the world.

Thanks!

And they are really bulky and thick, compared to SAKs!

More thoughts?

I haven't get a chance to handle the new LM K4/T4/K2/T2 series, but I am eager to try them out when there is a chance.  The construction/material used are rather different from SAK, so it might be a little too early to say.

Plastic vs metal scales?

Very valid point, and even a SAK with different scale and liner would probably introduce more weight. :salute:

Personally, I just think Victorinox does hit that optimal balance between value/quality/functionality/weight, which appeals to the mass market.

And as a SAK collector, what impress me most is their consistency of quality through out the century.  The walk and talk of each SAK or even MT are so consitent that it often baffels me. :climber:

I have swiza d02 and it is light. Very pleased with quality. But it is plastic and knife is thin. You don't notice is it in pocket or not. Again if you drop LM good change you notice it. For me optimal weight in pocket carry is 1-150 gram. Light is not better nor heavy is not better. It depends. So for me it is not only weight competition. Sometimes more weight make me feel better about using the tool.
