Basic Mediterranean Shelter Building Kit
on: May 27, 2019, 06:16:41 PM
Hudson's Bay Hatchet & Rangerwood 55

My traditional bushcraft tools for a quick-fix shelter. Cutting down trees on public wildlands is not legal. But using deadfall is just fine. Hoping to get out this summer and see what my old body can still do.

I love those Japanese folding saws. But I just don't have use for them outdoors. Even the hatchet I use in the choked-up position as a knife, for trimming down branches. That saw on the 130mm Victorinox is excellent. As is the knife.  (Map case and whetstone not in the pack.)

Looking forward to this

If you are talking about Silky saw from Japan, they are indeed one of the best out there, very efficient and well made.  :tu:

I don't have a 130mm but I'll definitely vouch for the 111's saw IP.  I like your kit!

Yes, Silky. The 130mm Pocketboy I especially like.

Nice photo !
I own and appreciate the saw Bahco Laplander but I confirm that the Silky is much better, certainly the best in its category (but it costs a lot here to me)

We should meet up some time. My body isn't old but is rather disabled. I'm sure we could knock something together though.   :drink:

That said, perhaps no fire lighting at present. I don't want to be on the news.

I've got a couple of certificates around here somewhere that say a tree was planted in my name in Israel.  If you guys really want to build a shelter you can use my trees if you want them.

Alan, that's generous of you, if I were in your shoe, I'd be like, "chop any tree, just please don't chop my tree..."

Cutting live growth in the forests of Israel is high treeson. Aside from official JNF foresters who plant and maintain our forests.

Can't agree more with these two gents here!   :like:

Since we are building shelter, does it mean it is going to be an overnighter?  :pok: :D

I like to half-recline up against a tree or smooth boulder on a hillside. A ground pad and a wool blanket. No rain problems in summer. A quick check for scorpion nests. No state of the art high-tech equipment for me. Herb forage for morning tea. Dry, cold breakfast.  :2tu:

Going all traditional  :like:   But anything goes, it just fun to spend time outdoor.  :tu:
