A fillet knife that grows in length when you want it to........

Bought this one at a yard sale the other day for $3. I already had one that has an orange handle but figured for that price I can always use another one(you can NEVER have TOO MANY knives). The guy I bought it from told me he had only used it once to gut a deer(with a fillet knife?)and judging from the bits of fur lodged in the base of the blade I had no reason to doubt him.
Got it home and the first thing I did was soak it and the sheath in very hot water and some hydrogen peroxide. While it was soaking I decided to see if I could find out who made it as there was no maker's mark on the blade;only the words,"Fisherman's Solution" on the sheath.
Much to my surprise the maker was listed as Cutco of Olean NY and it was touted as the blade beong adjustable from 6 to 9 inches in length by opening a latch on the side and sliding the blade in or out.It could also be completely removed for cleaning. The blade was supposed to have markings denoting the length.
Curious I got out my orange handled one and opened the clip and the blade slid easily out exposing not only the markings but the Cutco logo. I took the other knife out of it's bath and attempted to open it but it refused to move. After repeated attempts I finally grabbed the blade with a pair of pliers and finally managed to dislodge it. I pulled it completely out and returned it to the bath.
After a bit of sanding on the tang of the blade with 400 grit sandpaper and using a small flat file to clean out the slot for the blade the blade moved smoothly back and forth.A final cleaning and it is now good as new!
I also noticed that they sell on e-Bay for considerably more than the $3 purchase price.
In addition to being adjustable in length, the knife when sheathed acts as a line cutter by virtue of having a small notch in the bottom with the blade edge protruding through. The sheath also opens up to act as a pair of grippers to hold a fish while the hook is being removed. A small sharpening stone is mounted on the back of the sheath that has a groove to allow hooks to be sharpened. All in all a most unusual knife. I am posting a few pics of both knives and it will take a couple of posts to do so please bear with me.

Ray, that's a good find!  It is rather interesting how the sheath could be used as a fish 'pliers', kinda reminded me the AK bayonet which could be coupled together with the sheath as a wire cutter. :tu:

I was wondering how long it was going to take for THAT one! :D
What surprised me is I've had the orange handled one for several years now and never realized it could open up like that.
