Well said, Def

However, I may have to disagree about the tweezers. The Micra tweezers are robust, if a little less easy to use because they are attached to the tool.

I've removed many a tick from the dogs with the Micra tweezers. I feel that the Vic tweezers require me to "choke up" on them and grasp them very close to the business end in order to be able to get a good grip on certain items.

And the Vic tweezers fall into one of my pet peeve categories: little tools and bits that can be removed and subsequently dropped and lost. But truth be told, they are not the same as losing a screwdriver bit in my book. So I still like them, I just think the Micra is tons more robust in every way, for not much more size, weight and money

I prefer the Manager.  But all of them could benefit with a real flat driver.

Interestingly enough, the voting for the original two tools is currently 6-2 in favor of the Micra.  I find that fascinating, because this is (as I stated on FB) one of the very few times I prefer Leatherman over Victorinox.  And, oddly enough, it isn't even something I have to think about, other than the slightly smaller package and lighter weight, I really can't think of any reason at all that I prefer the Classic, despite it's absolute (and justified) iconic status.

The Micra has screwdrivers, and the Classic doesn't, so regardless of how useful they may be, they are far better than ones that don't exist.  And, the Classic SD, which does add a screwdriver tip really seems less like adding a function as it is ruining the tip of the nail file, which I use often.  I also prefer the texture of the nail file on the Micra.

The knife blades both work well, and I have seen some pretty major stuff done with the small blade on a Classic, but I prefer the slightly more robust blade on the Micra.

The scissors are exceptional on the Classic as well, and they were the standard for Leatherman scissors.  Tim Leatherman once said that if he couldn't put scissors as good as the ones on a Victorinox knife on his tools then he didn't want to put any in it.  The Micra scissors are excellent, and a total win for LM, but they get this point (in my mind) for sheer size and ease of use.

And there's not much point in discussing tweezers- the Classic's beat the Micra's hands down.  The Micra's tweezers are useful, but not in the same league as Victorinox, nor does the Micra have a toothpick.  But, as I always have my Compact with me I have tweezers and toothpick already and don't need them on my keys as well.

So those are my reasons for picking the Micra.  I honestly can't think of too many other tools that I would pick LM over Victorinox though... they both build great tools, but Victorinox just goes that extra mile to make them that much better!

Def

Most people here seem to prefer Rambler/Manager over the Micra. Not many really mentioned the classic though  :dunno:

That's because this is MTO and when given a choice of A or B the membership tends to all vote for pineapple.

Of course, if all you had were two choices in life, things would get awfully boring!

IF it were between the Micra and Classic and only those two were my choices I'd go Micra.  While the Classic is a, well Classic, its not a tool I carry or have carried.  For not much more weight or bulk you can get a lot more from Rambler/Manager.  Comparing the Micra to the Classic seems.................   .

I think that depends entirely on what you are using the scissors for. A keychain tool the size of the Classic is, imho, best for tiny, intricate work such as trimming nails, removing hangnails, loose threads, etc. (And is pretty much the main reason I EDC one as I cannot have long, cracked, or snagging nails in my line of work.)

I have never been a fan of LM scissors except those on the OG Wave; the tolerances just are not tight enough to be useful for very detailed work or like on the new Wave/Charge flip back and expose the naked edge far too easily.

This is also why I pair my Rambler with a Squirt P4 and get the best of both worlds.

Great points on Classic vs Micra in post #29 boss

I do have a Micra - But I barely use it - You are making me think I should try it out a bit

Agree with everyone else's comments about the Rambler
- Although for some reason I rarely carry a Rambler either (one reason was I gave the one I used to carry to my sister!)

However I voted for the Classic -
1. As that is what is on my keychains (well actually it's a Signature and Signature Lite) - Bit I reckoned that counted as a Classic as same main toolset and
2. As I read above it had fewer votes than the Micra so wanted to even things up  - Tactical voting?   ???   :twak:
3. I do pop a Classic into my pocket - If my other EDC tool does not have tp, tw or scissors

Even though I voted Rambler/Manager, I much prefer a Pocket Tool Chest to either, therefore my vote goes to Mango.

Very good points on the scissors Wes.
Although I personally feel that the Classic's scissors are a tad small on the thumbs nails, they're definitively more comfortable for cutting... nose hair.

Now I wonder, are the 74mm scissors bigger than the Classic's?

Hey, dont laugh. I just got stuck in a bathroom this past Sunday. I was in an old house. It had an old-style mortise lock and skeleton key. Thank God I had my Rebar on my belt!

Extra key with someone on the outside using it wouldnt work. I wanted to cause as little damage as possible, so I tried to disassemble the knob and escutcheon plate. Got me nowhere. Prying the bolt wouldnt move it. Removed one hinge pin off the door but couldn't get the other to budge and broke my Rebar flathead screwdriver in the process.

Finally I started sawing where the box keep met the doorjamb and eventually got free.

Then I went to the beach to cool off

You should've just turned the key... a lot easier.

My good old Microsoft-branded Micra  :salute:

I use it almost daily for many-many years.

That said, if I rank the tool usage as follow:

scissors - most used tool, 95%

small screwdriver, 3%

tweezer 1%

blade 0.5%

the rest 0.5%

 So a small but bulky scissor.....

But, it's lasted, feels as good as the day I got it.  :salute:

I don’t believe there’s a “best” tool for everyone, at least until they put tweezers on a titanium PS4. For me, tweezers are the most important tool, hands down. I work with steel shavings and constantly have to remove them from my oh so sensitive skin... the knife blade is a distant second and I definitely want a backup pen, though I try to carry a full-sized one anyway.

So, Victorinox Signature it is.

Classic or signature over the Rambler or Manager? Not a chance.. why would you give up the single best Philips driver on a multi-tool ever???!?!? Let me be clear, I have used it for both the screw on my glasses AND on screws as big as a #2...No other Philips can do this. The 2D one on the micra comes close, but no...nothing is this good.

Manager..nuff said..

And no..the Mini champ is not better. If you look at it, it basically has redundancy but provides no other valuable function. The manager is the ONLY multi-tool I am never without. I carry a ton of other bigger MTs but the Manager is a constant that I would never compromise on. In fact...its in my wallet.. right next to my X7S from Mecarmy, and my 128GB flash drive:

I'm usually not too pushy when it comes to MT preference, but the Manager is by far the top of the top when it comes to size vs. function. Nothing is more capable in a package this small, nothing.
