So, instead of simply collecting SAKs I'm saving lives (or at least prolonging them)...

Real  science humor, I would say. Papers like that are a genre of its own.  :)

They should have analyzed it by gender as potentially men are buying more SAKs. Swiss men have the highest life expectancy in the world, that clearly supports the hypothesis.

Maybe they should also analyze if more Layers are followed by a healthier lifestyle...

At last: a thorough, well researched, and well referenced study that correlates with anecdotal evidence.
Quote
This compact multifunction tool promotes an outdoor life style and thus physical activity, whose health benefits are well demonstrated. Besides the obvious use as a weapon for protection, the MUSK facilitates healthy diet: the corkscrew enables wine consumption in diverse locations, and regular moderate wine consumption seems to confer cardiovascular protective effects13, while the can opener promotes intake of better types of lipids, including omega 3s, by substituting meat or cheese sandwiches by canned tuna or sardine fish. The toothpick is useful for preventing periodontal disease, and as there is growing evidence of the association of periodontal disease and cardiovascular diseases, this Swiss army knife tool could also play a role in life expectancy. Some tools of the MUSK can also improve survival in a difficult environment. The saw is useful to build shelter for hikers lost in the wilds, a shelter of extreme importance as demonstrated by the WHO reports about social determinants of health. The knife can be useful in some medical emergency situations as for tracheotomy. One other medical use may be abscess incision in order to clear the infection and prevent it from spreading.
Speaking of medical emergencies, the authors neglect to mention the awl for stitching wounds, the saw for amputations, and the pliers for dentistry. I'd also add that MUSKs make poor defensive weapons for humans, instead being much better employed by skunks.

Missing my dear friend Don Federico Cortés, His Lordship, the Boss.
