:D

Day 7

No action pics but the Ranger helped me take down the outside Christmas light by cutting some frozen electrical tape I used to secure the extension cord to the lights.

Respect!  Knowing how lazy I am, I would have left it till Easter.

Hammer should be pretty good. When our Joann's Fabric Stores was going out of business, I got a small anvil from that same brand. I use it for setting snaps, straightening blades, tightening pins, you name it.

And clam pack is about the only thing more killer on a blade than cardboard. From my experience, even with the BOS heat treat, 420HC is not the old 440C of the '70s. I have an edge on my '74-80 110 I put on it a couple years ago, and it's still a decent edge. 420HC didn't last the Buck 110 Challenge I did. But, it sharpens without a whole lot of special stuff--I have to use diamonds on a "not sharp enough" 440C blade, and then send it to Buck if it's entirely blunt. I have a 105 that I will send off with my '74-80 112 (which the blade is messed up on, thus why I bought the 112LT) sometime when I get around to it (yep, I"m a procrastinator).

Thanks, Cody!  I do look forward to use this hammer more, so far been pretty good.

Unfortunately, I don't have a 440C from the 70s to compare to, but I did hear they were harder to 'sharpen' and that's the reason why they went back to 420.  I would want to compare this blade to the Leatherman 420 blade or Victorinox steel.  After the plastic cutting I did test the blade again with receipt paper, it still slice it ok, but no where near how it used to glide thru them.

Day 8

No real use today, I tested the Ranger on some receipt paper after using it to cut hard plastic clam shell.  It still cuts it ok, but no where near how it used to glide thru them.  Gonna find sometime to strop it a bit to bring it back to sharp sharp.

Which by the way it passes ..with flying colours, of course, considering i have never had one fail, starting to think maybe a chicken is a better test subject

Day 8 - cutting cardboard cartons can be hard on a blade.

So applied some steel to the edge and feathering sharp.

Here is a comparison picture against my Case Trapper. About same blade length.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 08:

Got out for a hike today. Wild weather. Temp in the 30's, so the trails were pure ice in some spots and sticky mud in others.  Naturally it was windy, cloudy, sunny, snowy, and dry.....all at the same time.

Feels like Spring.

I went with spikes on my boots, trekking poles in my hand, and the Ranger in my pocket.

Great day for a hike!

Thicker than I thought it would be. Its basically the same thickness as the regular Ranger but much lighter.

That is the reason I like the Ranger as it is in the perfect blade length range - same as the 111mm SAK  :woohoo:
