Scrap from pine frame crate reinforcement for my washing machine. Nice, straight, long, clean lengths of pine came inside of the box for the new German washer I had purchased a few years ago. I rub down the soft wood with olive oil, cigar ash, and clove paste, and run it through a flame. This hardens the surface a bit, brings out the grain. But make no mistake about it, this is primitive craft, unrefined, and I will not be replacing Michelangelo in the sculpture art history books anytime soon. Tools: small Victorinox knives, especially from the Delemont Collection, which have more belly to the blade. The eyes are knots of course, and I decided to leave them alone. Ghoulish. Cannot decide if the fellow is an ancient Chaldean like Avraham, a Western Isles Gael from Scotland, an Ethiopian priest, or an Icelandic Viking. I had intended on making a large figured chess set, but, at 65 I don't know if I will live long enough for that.
