Walking sticks and canes collection.
on: July 11, 2019, 03:37:21 AM
Years ago, I was at an outdoor art show and saw a beautiful walking stick. With that first purchase, I started to look around for others. Over the years, it has grown somewhat. I keep my collection by the front door simply because it is handy if I need to grab one on the go,

This weekend, I have added two new ones, both with an east coast flavour. The middle one carved like a totem pole.

The other is the middle in this photograph. Not as much of a relief carving as the one above, but of the same vibe.

A closer view of the middle layer. I think of this group as  having 3 layers. The top with those two super long 7 footers, the middle layer with the majority of the hiking staves, and the lower layer for canes and such.

A closer look at the lower layer.

A little Leatherman information.

I love hiking staffs, I don’t have a collection just a pair, and of course the if needed cane that I had to spiff up,
That one with my somewhat JR carved in the top I spotted in a parking lot, someone just left it, then when I closed I fig I’d grab it but forgot it, then sure enough it was there the next day, and when I left it was still there and it came home, I had to dry it out before I could do any work, but I did, stained it and put about 15 coats on top of it, then added the leather grip,
That other one I bought but then made it into a survival staff, under that paracord handle there’s zip ties, razor, and other stuff, drilled out the top and then glued in a ball compass, and then etched in a ruler from the bottom to 2ft,

Thats a nice walking stick.

I have several walking sticks, but my 2 main users are still my cold steel dragons.  I tend to alternate using each one for a week, this week it's my red one.  I keep another dragon walking stick in my locker at work for when I need to go out on plant so I don't ruin my nice ones.

I also have their irish knob stick in my bedroom for when I'm having a particularly bad night so need the extra help for the walk to the loo for the 4am pee  :D

My two daily users are still going strong.  The black one is starting to show its age now a bit with its scuffs and scrapes after almost 10 years of usage.
They both got a clean today and some new bungee lanyards and rubber ferrules.
