Fuzz Day 4

As you can probably guess, the PST's not that well suited to shovelling coal...

Soooo... the Flying Scottsman is not going anywhere soon?  :P

Great pic though  :tu:

Day 4

Switched to my PST II with awl today.
Used the scissors to cut some tags on a new fleece jacket. These are the best scissors Leatherman has ever made imo.  :tu:
Secondary scissors are always a nice tool to have!  :like:

Day 4/30

Screw it!
Fixing small stuff in the kitchen once I arrived back home.
Screwing the new dishwasher to the kitchen board (old one died while doing his duty, only 8 years old, not fixable without large costs ...) and handle of a pan was lose.

While doing minor cutting jobs all day long with this tool It is a bit awkward to use.
Open sheath, get tool, open tool, open blade, close tool, cut, open tool, close blade, close tool, put back to sheath.
While carrying any other folder there are some shortcuts in this process.
Pull knife out of pocket with lanyard, open, cut, close, store away.

While I usually have a tool somewhere arount, I prefer a knife for everything else. Nothing large, Huntsman or SI or BSA type knife these days...maybe I am just not used to it. Lets see.

The PST's blade helped me opening a box containing a new toolbox  :ahhh

I have one like that since 30 years (it's still good) and I'm glad they still make them  :D

Here's the old one... pic from this summer.
Some don't like the way the handles work, it could need some time getting used to.
I find it brilliant though, the lid folds flat to the sides and is never in the way  :tu:

Thanks Douglas

Speedy and Ray, yes i agree, the warranty is on the tool, who owns it at point of failure shouldn't come into it but well... it will live on in another guise  :tu:

Nix i'm pretty certain LM would accept that as a warranty job, maybe we shouldn't see it as losing the pliers but gaining a pry-bar  :D

Day 4  (man i love starting challenges on the 1st, it's so easy to check what day we are on)

Don't you just hate it when the power washer lance pisses water all down your leg because of a leak inside, well...no more, dealt with that today

Day 4

Funny how many of us switched to the PST II today, I did so too. Opened the monthly dose of popular science.

And a question to PST II owners: how often do your scissors misfire? I mean when the arm slips over that little tab, like on my photo. Mine does that about 2-3 times out of 10. Since I only have one PST II, mine sample size is minimal. :) Help me out, is this a typical issue or is mine a bit worn and/or is the pivot loose?

Oi you, how dare you!  :twak: I'll have you know my pipe's a rather lovely cherry wood billiard - as straight n British as you can ruddy-well get... In fact I'm pretty sure the Queen's got something similar... Unfortunately, I've gone and left it down south though...

Hope you're migraine clears up.  :tu:

Someone told me years ago that the best place to find the old clay pipes is next to field gates , i just thought it was nonsense but you know how many clay pipes i have found while digging strainer holes over the years, i'm starting to think there is some truth in that, either that or they were so easily broken and there were so many of them if you dig a hole anywhere you will find one  :dunno:  they reckon the farmer would be leaning on the gate yakking away to the neighbour, breaks the pipe and tosses it to the side, to be re discovered 100 years later, anyway..

Funnily enough (and I'm not making this up) the best places to find old clay pipes, or rather bits of them, is old farm midden sites. My brother and I used to find loads of them as children mostly stems, but occasionally a mouth piece or very rarely an intact bowl  :ahhh... Ah, life was simpler back then... (sigh)...

It only happens on the very early PST II, Leatherman tweaked the design in later ones. If you happen to get one the scissors are an easy fix, five minutes with a small hobby file. The scissors on these early models had a design flaw which caused the handle to slip past the stop when cutting anything heavier than paper. LM later fixed the problem by putting a bevel on both pieces. I modified these scissors in the same way so they work perfectly.
