RAKing Back The RAKers Returns!!
on: July 23, 2019, 01:27:56 PM
It's been a couple years so lets drag this one out and dust it off.

Gerber have released non evaporating wire cutters! sent us a couple solid state tools to give away!

Two Mullets!!       :bud:   :bud:

To enter this giveaway post a recent pic showing the item you received via a RAK and name the sender.
Things that count as a RAK are giveaways and care packages etc, company sponsored giveaways like this one don't count.
In a few days we'll randomize all the entries and draw a winner.
We will then send one Mullet to the RAKer.
And the other one out to you.

What an excellent opportunity to show off your appreciation for being on the receiving end.

Next is a really sweet birth year Wenger Soldat that my friend Barry Rowland so kindly gave even although it was his Birth year SAK

:hatsoff:

If I win sent one to each of these fine friends  :tu:

Thank you Gerber and MTO for this generous giveaway  :hatsoff:.

Now, which RAK do I pick, that's the question.  Since many of the MTO members deserve to be in this topic, with all the member organized giveaways over the years, with people sending extra stuff along when you do a trade or buy from them, with people helping you getting a piece of some sweet deal in their country by buying the tool for you and sending it forward overseas, and with people just sending stuff because they read that you would like to get your hands on it in the future.

There's gustophersmob who bought two BO Charges on eBay U.S.A. which were for U.S. buyers only, and send them to me  :hatsoff:.
There's Badwolf who gave away his MTO bit kit and Gerber Shard, and even threw in a sharpening stone and a cool Nite Ize S-Biner/bottle opener.
There's CeHo from which I bought my Leatherman Mini, but when I opened the package I also found a cool Leatherman holder to display the tool.
There's Nix, who heard that I was interested in the Firefly firesteel to put in the toothpick slot from a SAK, and send me one to test it, just like that (he used a piece of cardboard to put the Firefly in, which ended up costing him a small fortune on shipping costs alone ... ).

And there are many more who should be on this list, thank you all  :salute:.

But since the four people above were the last ones in the row, I took their names, wrote them on small pieces of paper and threw them in my Tilley hat and had my 3 year old daughter Caitlin pick one out ...

So the person I'm entering is ...

Yes, Nix  :tu:.

I must confess buddy, I haven't used the Firefly (yet), since I like it so much and consider it to be for emergency situations only (and we both know it will work  ;)).  He also added a beautiful postcard (which I kept in my collection) and a big piece of cardboard (which I didn't keep ;)).

Edit: I'll post some extra details on the Firefly story:

Nix contacted me and told me he wanted to send me a long (91mm) and short (58mm) Firefly.  And by doing this he uncovered my deep dark secret ...

I don't own a 58mm SAK  :dwts:.

My boys have a couple of them but I have no 58mm SAK in my collection. Hearing this Nix asked if he should send me a 58mm SAK ...  :sa:  I told him I appreciated his very generous offer, but the Firefly was more than enough.  For some reason he also asked if I liked hot sauce ...   To which I replied: "yes, but my stomach doesn't".

When I asked for his PayPal info so I could pay him for the Firefly and shipping costs, he just changed the subject and never gave me his PayPal info.

Thank you for your generosity mate, and thank you to all the others as well  :hatsoff:.

Second entry from me:

Nix again...
Who had enough Fireflies to send me 2 as well

He smuggled them into this country by putting it in a false bottom of a Colonial made GI knife since he found out I wanted such a knife

Turns out customs use X-ray scanners, which caused a few day hold-up and an opened box

I wonder if they ever found out what those 2 rods actually are...

Nix is a great guy  :2tu:

I would've loved to see the face on the poor custom guy who had to explain to his boss what those two black metal glow in the dark thingy's were ...

And that knife is just ...

And no Nix, that's not me asking for such a knife, that's just me saying I like the looks of it  ;).

So firstly, thanks for putting together, zoidberg! :salute:

And secondly, how do you choose if several members have been generous and kind? I am grateful to everyone who has helped and shown generosity.

But, that said and I hope I don't offend anyone who has been so kind and generous; there is one that stands out as very random and cool. It is the Original NIB Schrade Tough Tool CeHo had sent me earlier this year. I had contacted him about buying one at some point, whenever I could get up the money, and he replied he would be sending one as a gift. I was floored at the generousity and can't say enough about what a cool dude CeHo is to interact with.  :)

CeHo is a great guy  :tu:.

That brown leather sheath looks very nice (I have a weakness for brown leather sheaths, the old Leatherman sheaths, Victorinox Spirit sheaths ).  That's why I was so impressed when I saw pics of the Gerber CD + leather sheath that I went online, looking for a retailer, right away and ordered three  ::).

Nothing beats a brown leather sheath. Even though the black ones are more popular, the brown ones just have "the look" indeed.

Down to the final three. I kept the numbers hidden from the kids so they couldn't play favourites.
