Nice arrival.  I have one as well for short term emergency use, but thinking of upgrading to an inergy kodiak.
I have had a Goal Zero Nomad for back packing for over 5 years and it is still going strong. HSN had the Yeti 400 on sale and 5 payments of $88.00 so that got me off the fence!  I looked at the Kodiak on YouTube and liked it but cost said otherwise.
How are you liking your Yeti?

Cool thread, 'Ray. Are there any you've regretted using?
No, none. They all have their use’s and thats how they get picked. Guess thats why they make so many different models and sizes  :tu:
And there is one I’m not to keen on - the Swiss Champ...I have a couple for mod’s in the future

Just read the 1st 87 posts.

Agreed with you and others on the Farmer’s saw and the OHT’s.

I have touched a mini champ once, selected a Vagabond.

For writing I do have 2 NiteWriters(think that is the name)

I need to learn more of the Vic SAKs, I think I have 5 different models.

Like you, I have had a Nomad for several years that came with the Guide 10.  It is a nice little set up.

I’ve only had the Yeti 400 about a year and mainly have it for charging electronic devices and batteries during extended power outages.  I do have an AC/DC frig that I have used it to run some and it worked fine.

The main reason I looked at the Kodiak was the added capacity, especially after a recent storm caused a 10 day power outage less than a mile away.  A regular generator is not that practical for me, which is what led me to the Yeti and makes the Kodiak appealing.

:iagree: a regular generator isn’t practical for me either! Then there is the noise and fumes. Thanks for your input!

Another user of Guide 10 and Nomad, love that setup especially going for multi-days camping.  Never own those heavy duty portable power station, kinda wonder what kind of appliances could they power them and for how long...

The two big driving factors for these power stations are inverter size and battery capacity.  For most of them the inverter will not be able to handle anything with a heating element (microwave, coffee maker, portable heater), but it should have enough size to run an appliance at a time or a few smaller items at a time.  The Yeti 400 most likely is not going to have the capacity to run any major appliance for 24hrs, but could still run appliances and devices intermittently as required.

This is a very basic answer because anything more in depth would take a lot of explaining specifics that I am no expert on and do not want to clutter Ray’s thread with.

The one other factor is power coming in from the solar panels vs power going out to run your devices. You must know what your draws are ahead of time. Then there is how much sun time the panels get. The Yeti and most will tell you how long it will run.  I am not an expert on it either. A lot to learn.

Thats a gorgeous knife.  I have to admit I'd be a little shy to use it.

She see’s a lot of soft duty. Cutting apples or food. For whittling, no as I have other knifes for that. A Sunday knife might be a better term?

Day 7 photo’s
Hoffritz was based in New York City, IIRC? in the 1930’s. They were also the importer for Victorinox knives at one point in time. They had the Hoffritz name stamped on the scales, or ‘Hoffritz’ stamped on the tang of the blade. I like collecting these because of the tang stamps and they are SAK’s. Here is the Spartan...

I liked the Birth-year knife, 55 was a good year as I recall, but 53 is even more special;)

I do have a Spartan, but w/o the special markings.  That is very nice!
