The Fieldmaster is mine
on: August 02, 2019, 12:27:30 AM
I've become a huge fan of my Fieldmaster

At first I found it clunky, didn't like the main blade being so far from center, would have preferred a corkscrew over the Phillips.

It does have the 2 opener layer, a must for me. I also wanted scissors, like the saw, and the Hook has its uses.

And then last summer it started to find its way into my pocket and my mind

After a few dozen apples and other cutting the offset of the blades became natural, the backside Phillips saw more use than a corkscrew ever did, and more importantly it no longer feels clunky, and rides comfortably in my right front pocket.

I've only shelved it during a couple of challenges, and by the end was happy to have it back

Thought I'd share, and if you took the time thanks

I’m glad you are enjoying your Fieldmaster.  It is a nice knife.  I’m often shocked that it doesn’t seem as popular as the Huntsman.

I'm another Fieldmaster fan. Great tool set!     Great size for carry!

I flip-flop between the Huntsman and the Fieldmaster. Part of me likes the Phillips, but the corkscrew has it's uses, too. About town, the Fieldmaster gets more duty. On road trips, where a bottle of wine shared with Mrs Nix is a possibility, the Huntsman gets called up.

I'm planning to make a Fieldmaster from some spare parts / wrecked knives I have  (Super Tinker with worn out blade, Camper with jammed tools)
Plan to put it in my regular tools tool box (for the scissors, openers, light saw work etc)

Although this project has been planned for ages - Need to get on with it!!

Anyway I could convince you to throw Mountaineer into the mix?  It really is another great EDC candidate.

Good point, I think I hear more about the Tinker than the Fieldmaster, it does deserve more attention.

That is indeed a good looking tool.

I've not the pleasure of having one myself - and though I tolerate the corkscrew on my Outrider, 'cause with the in-line phillips I guess I feel I'll cope - it is definitely not my preferred option for any other SAK. I have a huntsman sitting NIB that I've got not interest in carrying....perhaps if it has the phillips that would be another tale?

For a similar tool selection though - I love my outrider, and it is my "holiday carry" for whenever I'm less inclined to have a clunky metal multi in my pocket. I'm not at all surprised that you find the fieldmaster to be a potent package of capability.

Hmm, a bit of fiddling with the sak selector seems to show the preferred option for 111mm is the corkscrew ....the Trekker and the Locksmith seem to be the only "non speSmurfpillst" layouts to offer a backspring phillips. What's going on 'ere vic?

How does early Spring sound?  I can get things going.  April is the only month I'm booked for right now with the Buck 110 Challenge.
