SAK Alox drilled & tapped pivots
on: September 02, 2020, 02:00:13 PM
Hello all.  Long time reader here but I've never posted.

I want to change a Pioneer SAK to Torx.  I have most things I need including M2 T6 screws, but I can't find appropriate pivots anywhere.  Can anyone supply 3mm and 2.5mm pivots to fit my M2 screws?

I'm not certain of the exact length... Maybe someone knows that?  Though of course I could measure and cut them to the correct size.

Thanks in advance!

Hi sgjs,
Welcome!
This depends where you live and others from your place may want to chime in to complete my 2 cents, to wit:
Not sure where I should get them (I haven't tested any of those offered ready-made) so I make them myself from solid brass stock in the appropriate diameter. Then I drill at 1.5 mm (this should be 1.6 nominally but 1.5 works just fine in brass) using a lathe and tap M2 thread.
Hope this helps...
Cheers!

Thanks for that info.  I live in the UK.  Your method sounds Ideal, though I don't have the tools and I'm not that technical...  I think I will try those that RF52 suggested.  They look ideal.

Unless perhaps you'd be willing to sell me some that you have made?  Obviously I understand if not    :)

I bought some of those from that guy. They work great.  Looks like his shop is currently closed though.

The hardest part was drilling out the rivets. Even with my little bench top drill press, I screwed up my scales.  Luckily it was on my beater PX, and it’s still functional.

Hey that looks great!

Yes I saw he was away.  I found his ebay shop and ordered a set there.  Hopefully when he returns he will ship my order.  I might try the drilling today to get the hard part over with.  I only have a hand-held drill so even harder than it was for you I guess!

I've bought these before, they are good quality and works well for the mod I did.
Shipping does take a while, and probably will during these times.

Greetings all,

As a newbie here, I thought I would begin with my first posting here.

I have been on the hunt for 91mm and 93mm scales to start my own modding and in searching, have found threaded 2.3 & 2.5mm pivots on several shops on Aliexpress.  Yes, I know that they are available through Alpha Supply if I want the 1/8mm ones and drill out my tools, liners and so forth.  The "sets" (as they are being sold) are about $10 with shipping and will include (2) 2.5mm and (1) 2.3 mm pivot.  They are sold for 2 layer or 3 layer builds and you will need to specify which length you want when you add them to your shopping cart.  I have not personally ordered any as mine came from DeCustomForge on Etsy.  Just throwing it out there as an alternative to the sources already mentioned here in these forums.
If I ever bore you, it'll be with a knife.

tlcrawford, can you provide the links for the pivots? I can't locate them on Aliexpress.
