Shoulders and Abs today.

Cardio

Dumbell Press
Military Press
Cable Face Pulls
Side Cable Raise
Front Plate Raise

Weighted Crunches
Weighted Leg Raise
Machine Crunches

We usually do a "burn-out" set where we do max reps and decrease weight repeatedly until we can't even lift the bar, but my workout buddy was feeling a "pinch" in his shoulder so we opted out tonight. Tomorrow we are going in to do a circuit workout with cardio between each lift. I love circuit days...I feel so exhausted I have to sit for 15 minutes before I can even drive home, but it feels amazing.

Today I mixed it up a bit to keep it fresh. I did a circuit workout with 1 minute of lifting, 30 seconds break, then a minute of high intensity cardio. Repeated that for a full body workout. Started with 15 minutes of cardio then moved to weights and 1 rep max of each weight then dropped plates to keep pushing. Man, you run out of steam real quick, but it is one heck of a great workout.

It is funny how you can really think you are at the top of your game, then a workout like this reminds you there are still mountains to climb! My workout buddy is wanting to mix in a day of all body weight high intensity training soon.

Your workouts sounds like a lot of fun! Would you mind sharing some of the excercises you do for the circuit workouts?

The basic movements really. Bench press, hack squat, lat pull down, military press, leg curl, preacher curl, leg extensions, tricep pushdowns, cable row, weighted crunches. Sometimes I will replace exercises for something else...ie - dumbell curls instead of preacher curls.

Nice! But I have to ask, no deadlifts?

Sounds like a good workout  :tu: I agree, you think you are pretty good, then you change workouts, and suddenly you're smoked again  :D

I did more like a Spartan routine today: Weighted Wheel barrel, Tire Flip, Pull-ups, random Kettlebell exercises, and hand release push-ups. Was a nice change of pace.

Not on my circuit day. These are just the circuit exercises I do. My daily workouts are a different story.

RF52 is correct though...I am a believer in dead lifts. There are just certain exercises that I think should be a part of any gym routine. Two of the biggest that I recommend is squats and deadlifts. Why? Putting the body under great load, and engaging the maximum amount of muscle creates gains. Relatively few weighted exercises engage as much muscle as squats and deadlifts. The reality is, almost every muscle from the traps to the calves are engaged in these exercises. When these exercises are pushed into progressive overload, the body responds chemically by producing more testosterone and growth hormone. If you ever hit plateaus in your workouts, try focusing heavily on deadlifts.

Start out slow and don’t go too far the first few times. If you smoke yourself right away, you are not gonna enjoy it. Remember, it takes 90 days to form a new habit. Have fun  :tu:

:imws:
You could start with alternating between running a power pole/block/whatever, walking the next one etc.

Even when I was really running-fit (I did a couple of marathons) I would still struggle for the first 5 minutes or so of any run.
