Gerber EAB

Is the gerber EAB legal carry in the UK? Does it qualify as a non locking folder under 3”?

Thanks in advance. :tu:

Since the joint has a linerlock securing it, I have a hard time seeing how the EAB could qualify. Perhaps if you filed off the lock bar, but it might still be argued that it's really a fixed blade with extra parts? (Silly argument, but I've seen so much strange logic regarding knife legislation...)

You can still use it at home, to safe your SAKs from box-breaking down duty

The Gerber EAB is one of my all time favorite things to EDC.  If it turns out that it is not legal for you over there, you have my sympathy.   :(

Thanks, it was going to go in my bag with my knifeless rebar but the lock definitely rules that option out now.

Not sure this makes sense but can you leave the razor out and carry it?  You can insert razor when needed.

 :dunno:

It'll make a great blade to open boxes and such at home and no worry about blade ever  :salute:

I think carrying the blade alone would be considered as carrying a fixed blade.

Whoa,  what an interesting thought.  If any of those normal stanley box cutters that you use for drywall are legal, then presumably you should be able to walk around with one of those little plastic boxes of replacement blades.  So, would you be allowed to carry the blades separate from the empty gerber EAB???

This totally makes me wonder, because when I fly to see my family a few times a year I always have to remind them to bring my knife that I leave at their house. (so that I have a knife with me while on vacation)  I wonder if the TSA will allow me on a plane with an empty gerber EAB??????????

Probably not   :(

Stanley knives are only legal to carry if you have good reason, and were a firm favourite among football hooligans in the 80s.
A friend of mine who was working as a decorator and had a Stanley knife in his overalls pocket which were in his bag while stood on a train platform. He was subject to a random search and was arrested when the policeman found the knife.

He argued it was his work knife and he was on his way home from work. The policeman asked him would he be working at the same place tomorrow, when he replied yes he was told in that case he could have left it at work and was arrested.

He did have previous for fighting whether that influenced the officer to not accept his excuse that he needed to travel with it everyday when he could have left it at work.

EAB with no blade on a fight?  Makes sense but then TSA would have last say and I"m not so sure anymore.

Ah, I thought it would be smaller.

It's the only version I can buy here (online)

Thanks!

Jewel Blade in Sheffield do concave and convex utility blades, which is what these both are. They do take a little tweaking on the non-bladed end to sit properly in the EABs

I have had several of both versions.  I like that the original is a little smaller.  The newer version (lite?)  is not much bigger.  The extra size wouldn't really bother me if I could figure out why they decided to make it that way.  It doesn't seem to add anything to the tool.

I also like the little curved finger choil better on the original one rather than the straight one on the lite.
