The clones are pretty damn good, but is the steel really S30v.

It’s the same with spyderco, seen some advertised on amazon that I could not be sure were 100% authentic.
That’s why now I will only buy from trusted knife dealers like knives and tools and heinnie haynes.
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Cap started a thread several years ago about fake Spydercos. Fakes are a big problem.

Almost certainly fake.

Not sure if that waterproof, but the copyright symbol next to the butterfly on the blade is way too large (this has also found to be true in other Benchmade fakes). Picture 1, original on the left.
The blade seems too small (although my matchup is not perfect). Grindlines are quite different. Original on top of the fake. You can see, the spine:grindline:edge ratio is quite different.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Matching the pivot and trying to orient the knife the same way.
You can see the handle matches pretty well, though in the original (red shape), the pivot is a bit further forward. I'm fairly confident in claiming that the original has the larger blade.

If I match the blade you can see the handle is significantly smaller... so, in the fake the blade to handle ratio does not match.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I think the easiest to spot is the grind line... seems to be a detail that is often not quite right in fakes.

Yes they are.  Many are very difficult to tell the difference.  Price is my first indicator for a new knife.  If its too good to be true........

One thing I have always said about international trade is that something needs to be done about bootlegs/counterfeits. Seems very little is being done. eBay is super-complacent about it; even with action from the manufacturer of the authentic item, they do little if anything. And I highly doubt a customs agent would be able to spot fakes of most of the items being sold.

Of course, used is where it gets sketchy. Of course, no one fakes an Old Timer or most any Camillus; but when I'm getting increasingly into Spyderco and Benchmade as of late, it's getting tough. I try to buy only from people whom I know that they know what they've got and aren't trying to pass it off as authentic when it is not.

I've picked up a couple of replica watches over the years. One was a replica of a Breitling Bentley that I wanted the bracelet to replace on a real Breitling. It was an automatic movement that keeps great time and is very difficult to tell from a real one.The only down side to it is that it is NOT water resistant. When it gets damp outside moisture forms on the inside of the crystal.A couple of dessicant bags take care of that.
Another one was an A.Lange & Sohne moon phase watch that is a dead ringer for the original down to the markings and the appearance of the movement(clear back)but also suffers from non water resistance.
I bought them used in a pawn shop for less than $100 & $50 respectively each.Considering the originals are about $14,000 and $27,000 respectively I think I did all right.I also do not try to pass them off as originals;I just like the looks of them.

In the past I have been tempted to get a fake Omega Speedmaster...it looked so real
Think it was right at $100 at the time.

My goodness!!
If I could get a fake Mini Crooked River here, I'd get it just for the scales and throw the fake Benchy in my workcase.

Perfect for that!

Better still, the logo position. In the original, it's under the thumb stud, right?

I wonder how well they would fit? I bought a clone several years ago of a Microtech LCC to switch out scales but found out the clone, although exact on the surface, was not compatible. However, if they are cloning these by copying the originals exactly, that would certainly work.

Sounds like it might be cheaper to deliver it here, then I send it to you from my address...if you wanted to chance the fit.
