If you think the counterfeit knife trade is bad the bogus wrissmurfch business is akin to Goliath next to David.
Oh watches go to a watch shop and the back gets popped off to see the workings!
I've picked up a couple of replica watches over the years. One was a replica of a Breitling Bentley that I wanted the bracelet to replace on a real Breitling. It was an automatic movement that keeps great time and is very difficult to tell from a real one.The only down side to it is that it is NOT water resistant. When it gets damp outside moisture forms on the inside of the crystal.A couple of dessicant bags take care of that.Another one was an A.Lange & Sohne moon phase watch that is a dead ringer for the original down to the markings and the appearance of the movement(clear back)but also suffers from non water resistance.I bought them used in a pawn shop for less than $100 & $50 respectively each.Considering the originals are about $14,000 and $27,000 respectively I think I did all right.I also do not try to pass them off as originals;I just like the looks of them.
I think the easiest to spot is the grind line... seems to be a detail that is often not quite right in fakes.
My goodness!!If I could get a fake Mini Crooked River here, I'd get it just for the scales and throw the fake Benchy in my workcase.Perfect for that!
Well yes, but it's taken offline again and I have no PayPal to buy it And this was the full size
