One question; as I understand it this tool came out several months ago but there is no traffic on any forums about it, why not?

That was a great review   I too have noticed that Gerbers multitools dont get much mention or credit and I must admit im not a big fan but there is something about gerbers I like but an awfull lot I dont like . Its almost as if I'm waiting for them to catch up and one day they will release a tool I'm happy to EDC without having to bring a back up tool incase it fails or cant do a certain thing . I have noticed too that alot of soldiers seem to carry them in Iraq and dont complain about them but .

To use the ruler I found that if you only open it half way it is easier to use. Not only that but if you check the measurement from the tip to the base of the serrated blade is 41/2" (115mm) and if you half open the scissors the full measure is then 77/8" (200mm). Not precise but near enough for rough measurments.
The can opener and bottle opener are useless, I think they should have chucked both of them and designed a jig saw blade exchanger for that position, you would have had to remove the blade when you were finished cutting but that would be a small price to pay for having the use of a saw on board. I could imagine the sarcastic remarks that would be made about it though.
To close the blades pull back the lock with your finger and thumb and put the blade back using your leg, bench, wall or anything else at hand rather than you would a knife. The tool adapter for it is far better than the one for the MP600 and if you get the wrong pouch get in touch with Gerber and they will sort you out. The pouch should take both the tool set and the pliers and I have reason to think some rouge sized pouch's have got out (the one I got was clam packed the boxed one I got earlier was ok).
I too think Gerber gets a bad press, I have read thing's that just have not happened to the Gerbers I use. They do what it says on the box, they have nothing fancy about them to up the price, they are eficiant well priced tools. I can see why they seem to be trying to get into the butterfly opening multi-tool market (in conversation with 2 separate internet retailers here in the UK they said the Gerber Suspension out sells all other full size multi-tools, apparently the price is right and they look like tools) I wish they would leave them to SOG and the others and get the sliding head tools advanced more than the Freehand and Diesel. I think the Flik is going to be a marriage of those 2 designs putting the bigger tool into a Diesel size frame. Well I found the Freehand to be too loose because of the head wieght and the Diesel to not be loose enough. IMO neither beat the MP600 sliding head design (you know the one that rattles  :P ).

I went up to Tennessee to visit a friend for a few days and we took his boat out to Harrison Bay State Park on Lake Chickamauga.  There was a wind advisory with the 20mph sustained and 40mph gust, so the water was choppy making for a rough ride.  I had my Spirit with me so I took a pic of it with the lanyard keeping it from falling overboard on the rocking boat.

I can't bear to look at it.  I've lost too many things in the water.  Everything's tied down, attached to something that floats, or on my person when I'm on the water.

I must admit that I have been lucky and havnt lost anything overboard and I dont use lanyards as much as I should  :( Thats something I keep meaning to look at but dont for some reason . But I guess that would change if I did loose something  :(  Thinking about it I would be really upset if I lost something dear to me over the side , considering how much stuff costs us in the UK . High street price for something like a LM Charge is over £100 and the Swisstool is £70 . Trade price that the shops buy them at is about £35 . You guys in the states are very lucky but its something we are used too .I can understand it with U.S made tools but its a shame when Victorinox is made in Europe  :(

Here's a few more photos.  Some nice houses on the lake, one with a cascading waterfall around the side.  It was raining the day before and my friend showed me a house on the lake that looked like a castle.  I had my cell phone and camera in zip lock bags and I'm glad I did as we were bouncing in the choppy water like your signature avatar boat and getting spashed with the spray.  I took the Vic Spirit in case we needed to swap out a battery since this was the first time he'd taken the boat out this year.  The lake water level was low since they do that in the winter and we had to be careful for shallow spots.  I wish I'd taken a photo of a bird we saw walking across the middle of the lake.  If we hadn't seen the bird, we might of hit that spot running about 40mph.

Wow thanks  :) looks like you had a really great time . I imagine that 150hp outboard must have really gone some  :o At the moment we run a 75 and our new boat will have a 90hp but we have to be carefull on the sea with the power to weight ratio  ( too much power and big waves is not a good idea ) . I bet that thing really sat up and begged when you opened the throttle , awsome

The caption on this pic I found described this boat as having belonged to smugglers operating between the English coast and the continent. Guess they have a different standard of the ideal power-to-weight ratio!  :o

That's ok... kind of reminds me of that old SAKtivity where I trimmed my nose hairs with the scissors from a SwissCard.  Everyone left messages talking about how terrible a SAKtivity it was, but it was also probably one of the highest viewed SAKtivities of all time!

Did your wife take that picture ? and did you have to put up with her telling you how sad you are for wanting to post pics of you trimming your nose hair . I think my wife has given up telling me how sad I am  ::) for some of the pics I take , but I can rely on the kids not to let me forget  :D

Actually, there is a small shelf next to the sink in my bathroom.  I wanted to put a clock there, but the wife insists that it's there for smelly candles.  I perched the camera there for the pic.

And taht sounds like yet another reason to not have kids! :P

Thanks, it helps having that view out of your backgarden! couldn't get my crunch to stand up though, wasn't trying very hard though, didn't want to break my new toy!
Back at uni now though, so i have to walk a bit further to get to green fields, will have to make an effort and try and get some good shots out and about.
