4 Best Full-Sized Leatherman for my Needs
on: October 17, 2019, 11:45:35 AM
Wave +, Charge Tti, SuperTool 300, Surge

No claims or criticisms on what others may prefer.
These are tools that have been in my use for some time.
If the Charge had an awl, it would have been my last Multitool.

Many have asked why Leatherman doesn’t put an awl on the Wave. I suspect that you just answered the question.

OK - But what are your needs ?   ???

When / How do you use them?   .... Where do you keep them?

Why would you use the Charge over the Wave over the Surge or vv.   :pok:   etc etc etc
Why not just have one ?   ???   ;)

EDIT PS: @ Genevabuck - Pls don't quote the whole post and clog up the thread with duplicated info
A simple "Reply"  is usually fine

Nice choices.  As pictured above the awl is a mod you can do.  I use my Charge TTi every day at work.  Do you pair those with any SAKs or other tools?

My primary use is light bushcraft. Woodworking. General chores. Outdoorsy.

I usually I have my multitool in a canvas shoulder bag. Never on a belt, or clipped to a pocket. I do clip a tool to a handy place inside a pack sometimes.

Why more than one Multitool? They are useful kit, but let's face it, they are also man-toys. And, quality control is far from perfect, and the return time for warranty work is a few months from Israel. Thus having two is a minimum for anyone needing a Multitool for work.

Mostly, however, I love small, non-electric mechanical devices. Though 45 or so multitools is enough, given that I am not enamored of the new Free line. And I pretty done with SOG, and definitely with Gerber. SOG pliers I do like, but that's it. I don't mind a good warrant, but I'd rather better QC at the factory.

Leatherman...
...and Victorinox, because my 20 year old SwissTool is still going strong. So I bought a Spirit, and a new SwissTool. They are engineering marvels.

Does the modification void the warranty?  I was given that impression from Leatherman. Perhaps I misunderstood the local rep.

Yes and no. They will tell you it will, but they have repaired modded tools.
The best thing you can do is to keep the original parts and if you ever have to send the modded tool in, just mod it back to the way it was. It is very easy to remove the awl and put the flathead back in the Charge.
