About 12 hours left in this, so let's open it up to any good deeds done in the past week or so, for those people that won't have an opportunity before the deadline.  It is great to hear (read) everyone's stories.  I am proud of everyone here, and glad to hear that everyone is trying to make an impact.

As for my birthday, I had a great day.  I'd planned to go kayaking, but that didn't happen.  Usually that is a bad thing, but what ended up happening was just as fun.  I'll start a new thread about it shortly.

Don't know if this counts as a good deed, but here goes...

The situation at work has been going downhill for a couple of years now, more work, less people to do the work, more pressure, more stress...

And on top of that, a new department chief who has no idea how to work with people.

Anyway, today one of my colleagues that I've known the longest (about 12 years, day in, day out) told me he needed my advice.  He said he got a job offer elsewhere and asked me if he should take it or not.

The job seemed a lot better than our current one in the hospital, but if he decided to go for it this would mean I would lose one of my best friends.  Okay, we could still meet outside of work, but I know from experience that there's a big difference between seeing somebody each day of the week, or seeing him/her like five times a year.

Anyway, I knew the best thing for him would be to go for it, even though this meant losing one of my best friends... So I adviced him to take the job...

An hour ago he gave in his notice, and in about four weeks he'll be leaving the team to go to his new job.

I'm happy for him, but I feel like cr*p knowing I'm losing one of my best colleagues.

I know we can still meet outside of work, but same thing happened with another colleague a few years ago, and thanks to our busy schedule we only manage to get together four times a year or so, quite a big difference with seeing each other every day...

Today’s supposedly our adopted dogs bday, who turns 1, so the Mrs wanted to make a little cake for him, a pineapple cake,
Well she threw the cake in the oven and went down to do her morning workouts, but she won’t be up in time to take it out of the oven so I took it out and put a little note on the cake for her :D

Happy Birthday Grant! 45. Not bad. It gets worse later on but 45 is a good age.

Not to be a wet blanket but I've always had a hard time talking myself up. To me its bragging. If we had the opportunity to talk someone ELSE up, that would seem even more honorable. A nice thread that would be.

But we have the feedback threads for that.

Well, I awlways try to be nice to people. Opening doors (or holding them), giving up my seat to someone, helping out when asked for directions or any information...

These come so naturally, I don't even think they count as good deeds. So, I guess that leaves me out.
