The Pioneer is what I measure every other pocket knife by. It has all the tools I must have and nothing I can't get by without.

My favorite thing of all is that the Pioneer still looks and feels like a pocket knife and not a multi tool. Often when I carry an SAK I feel over burdened with too many layers and bulk, and that's when I'll drop the Pioneer in my pocket. I'll sometimes miss the scissors on my PX but the classic takes care of that.

Here's to you humble Pioneer :salute:

I agree. Does the triangular awl do a better job than current inline awl?

Totally agree!!!  I have moved up to the PX because I really use those scissors a lot!!

But I really miss my Wenger SI with bail. Carried it for long time.

Might return to it and have my Ambassador handy  for the scissors....

I have no first hand experience with it. For me i want it more just because it’s the very first pioneer.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has experience using both, I’ve wondered the same thing myself.

I carry either an alox rambler or alox classic depending upon which set of car keys I have, primarily to have scissors if I need them, though I tend to use the nail file much more

Ahhh, you had to mention file. I miss having a file as well. But the Ambassador covers that. So would my Rambler.

Might look into an alox Rambler or Classic for MY keyring!!

I find it’s a handy combo!

Though a factory alox rambler is hard to come by and spendy. I made mine from an alox minichamp.

Can't go wrong with the PX, its probably my favorite knife. Those scissors are simply excellent.
Still, there's something so appealing about the simplicity of the Pioneer and the slimness that keeps me going back and forth a lot between the two.

Great carry duo there!
Thanks, I love this little Case pen knife. As much as I love my SAKs I still gotta get my carbon steel fix

Not by far.  Way more effort to cut simple holes in soft materials.

The old awls are just cooler and more collectable IMO.

Whelp, I think we can close the thread now

So much awesome!  I’ve had a few BSA pioneers over the years, but have moved them all on.

I would like to find another +pat elinox with a bail at some point. If it had the original style awl, even better.

Nice collection and great pics!

Here's to you humble Pioneer :salute:

This picture with the traditional knife and the statement that the pioneer is what you judge others by got me thinking.

Neither of these are limited to just the pioneer, but two things it get right are the flush back springs when compared to a cellidor Vic, and the smooth tang transition when the knife is closed vs most all traditional knives. I’ve tried to illustrate in some quick pics.

Both of those are basically deal breakers for me in other knives, the pioneer has spoiled me.
