Source for blade exchanger?
on: January 08, 2020, 06:16:43 PM
I've been searching for some time for an appropriate t-shank adapter or blade exchanger (as comes on the surge) to replace the knife on my Leatherman Crunch with. I know I won't be able to store a long blade inside the crunch going this route - instead, I plan to store the blades beside the crunch in my holster. I am also willing to remove one or more of the screwdrivers if I need to in order to fit the exchanger.

I found this older topic (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=78676.0#_) where someone had a chinese seller for such a piece, but the product appears to no longer be listed and I have not had luck finding another.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a reliable(ish?) source for a blade exchanger that accepts T-shank blades before I go through the process of making a custom one.

Thanks y'all!  :multi:

I can't find an active link for the Wave, but I was able to order the SOG one sucessfully (https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?_u=92076qjj897fc6&id=523106040777). It's a pretty long process, (1-2 months) but they are a decent quality. I actually bought them because I'm working on adding them to my Juice and squirt and am cutting and modding them a fair bit, so I have another order that should be here in 3-4 weeks. This time I ordered a couple of the different SOG styles(there are three listed), and I can post picture if you want.

Trebor, thanks a million for the reply! That looks like an excellent start. I'm not above modding one of these a bit by any means, I mostly wanted to avoid the headaches of a from-scratch fabrication. May I ask how you were able to find these on taobao? The search has always been a headache for me.
It appears they actually only have two variants, but one is available in stainless, the other black oxide? Maybe I'm misinterpreting the listing, as it's not exactly clear, love this gem:

When removing the pliers, be sure to heat the screws before removing, because there is screw glue. It is not enough to use a common hair dryer to heat the temperature. It is recommended to use a hot air gun or an electric iron. Lighters really don't work.

To what extent does it heat up, you immediately jump up and shake your hand and scold your mother, so that the screw glue is almost melted. Remove it without heating. If the screw is damaged, don't cry and call me responsible.

Did you place your order through Superbuy? That's the only way I know to get stuff off taobao. I kinda want to wait to see what you get to ID which would work best for me, but I am admittedly tempted to order one of each since 50 yuan is like $7.50 USD. I'll probably want to install one in another MT at some point, anyway.

Wow! I love the links to TaoBao, I just looked and they have made so many of my mods!

The slingshot out of a Wave, the little micro screw driver inserted into the larger bit adaptor. So cooL!

Word of warning those taobao blade exchangers only hold upto 0.9mm saws, so metal saws only I think.

Sorry metropolicity, I feel bad now for buying them. didn't realise those products were copied from you.

Good to know, and thank you for the information kingofswords. Fortunately, I want this exchanger specifically so I can put in high-TPI metal jigsaw blades. My crunch is my metalworking assistant.

So I just got a notification that the warehouse refused the order based on the item being "prohibited". I did order the item previously with no issue, so it might be more of a random who inspects your goods issue? I ordered directly through the Taobao site both times, so I'll likely try again with superbuy.

If the Surge saw/file holder will work for you it's not as expensive:
Surge saw/file holder - $25

That's mighty unfortunate. I haven't ordered yet, I think I will hold off and wait to hear your results.

It would, but not as well, so I figure if I'm gonna buy something, might as buy the "right" one.
