Alright since no-one asked or they already know, whats the other item in the pic?
It is. William posted it in the Flashlight sub forum. It is a FreLux Synergy1.
... and find that if you are prepared in other aspects of your life, you don't need to be a walking toolbox. A SAK with a basic set of tools will get you through the day.
I've been struggling with this lately. I fell down the high-end pocket knife rabbit hole a couple years ago, and I'm starting to climb out. I think fancy pocket knives with super steels are cool and all, but for the price and what I really need a knife for on a daily basis, they just aren't for meI kind of got into the "extreme preparedness" mindset where I felt like I had to have a tool for every scenario on my person at all times. But I hate bulk in my pockets and find that if you are prepared in other aspects of your life, you don't need to be a walking toolbox. A SAK with a basic set of tools will get you through the day.
I don’t carry just a SAK, but I’m pretty sure I could and it would pretty much cover all my needs. Usually I carry a folding knife (Spyderco Mantra or Kershaw link) a pry bar(KIT by Knifeguys or one by Maverick Customs), a Streamlight flashlight, and my small Knipex Cobra pliers. I stopped carrying a plier based MT a while back because I never use them, but now I carry the Knipex as a just in case (lighter than a plier based MT as well). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rhetorical question; Why would we need any other folder or pocket knife since, in comparison to SAK's, all other folders pale to insignificance? I mean that, with a Vicotrinox SAK in your pocket, what in the heck use is a ZT, Benchmade, Spyderco, or any other trendy tactical knife that is a product of an artificially created market? Single blade knives with just one lone blade is a shallow one dimensional tool with limited use.
While I agree with you I will start carrying a folder with my Spirit again once the 30 day challenge is over. The Spirit’s blade is reserved for dirty jobs: Cutting boxes, removing dried caulking, and that kinda stuff. The slim folder will be used for food prep exclusively. That way I have a blade for the hard jobs and one always sharp for the delicate ones.
I have about 250 Swiss knives
I have about 250 Swiss knives but I carry a Victorinox Compact in my pocket every day,(Image removed from quote.)Very handy, with his pen, scissors, ...sometimes when I want something even less bulky I take a Waiter(Image removed from quote.)But I still have in the wallet a bantam Alox , very fine it does not take space(Image removed from quote.)
Pioneer for me all on its lonesome. That said, I am a sparky so I've a full tool belt with linesman pliers and a full complement of screwdrivers handy a lot of the time. Although since becoming a foreman I've been just carrying a pen, a phone and my pioneer, and ive yet to feel "caught short", so theres that 🙂👍
A SAK, a multi, and folder for me. The dedicated folder for general cutting chores and abuse allows me to keep the SAK blades sharp for delicate cutting needs. The multi because sometimes I need heavier duty implements or the pliers. My most often carried combination, when not involved with a challenge, is a Swiss Champ with a Spirit tool in a leather pocket sheath, and a Myerchin titanium rigging knife which weighs less than most common folders even though it also has a marlin spike.
No Electrician for you? I have a nice old cross Electrician, but I confess I never use it. Seems like if you're the Pioneer kind of guy and also an electrician in your daily life, this would be the perfect SAK for you?
