Custom mod Outdoorsman

Finished a customer’s mod today. Basically a 6-layer Outdoorsman with Combo tool replacing opener layer, file instead of scaler and added pliers.

Swapped out the back chisel for the awl which otherwise gets lost with the opener layer. Needed thinning down a little to match file layer thickness.

Really turned out well. Not seen a similar mod, but I’m sure someone’s done it already.

Used a SC as base and Waiter for the Combo tool. A few pic’s along the way...

First use of the hand draw 2.2mm brass rod I had made recently. Worked well.

Have to use the spacer from the Waiter to have a key ring, as this is lost with the SC opener layer back spring. Just enlarge the hole to 2.5mm. A little recessed compared to normal spacer, but acceptable imo.

Waiter Combo tool is a good fit for 91mm SAK. Just need to enlarge the hole to 2.5mm and grind a bit off the heel of the pivot area, so the tool points ‘up’ a bit more to expose the nail nick properly. Waiter certainly a cheaper donor than a Compact!

Anyway, a nice build (my biggest so far), and I’m sure the customer will be happy!

(PS: layout shows pliers first, but had to put the scissors first, because pliers pivot catches liner.)
