Whats your favourite?
on: December 26, 2008, 03:48:12 PM
Whats the one blade that you could not live without?

I am cheating as I have 3...but its my thread so boo to you  :P

I have a Wood scaled Swiss champ that the kids got for me on Fathers day...its my constant EDC  :climber:

I have a Spyderco UKPK in foliage green thats perfect for quick access (UK legal) work  :tu:

And finally my snakewood inlay Sebenza as it was brought from money left over to remember my Nan by.  :salute:

What about you guys and guyesses?

There are several knives I think that I can't live without.
But if push came to shove it would be my Great Grandfathers Camillus Swell Center Stockman.

That way I could pass it on.

It would have to be my old pre-hook Compact.  I got it as a gift from my daughter last year and it really started me buying SAKs.  I had owned SAKs before this but this one kick-started buying more and more.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

For me, it would be my Bear Grylls Bayley Knife, my EDC SURGE that Calvin gave me, and my first SAK- a Camper.

I'm going to cheat as well  :D.

Folder-wise I'd have to say my Sebbie, but as for fixed blades I'd have to chose the Trailly (of course  :D) and possibly my Grohmann or my RK62.  Oh and my Master Hunter for reasons that some here may understand.

I'd be pretty upset if I were to lose any of those.
I'm back!!

I'm going to cheat and break it in to 2 as well :D

The Folder would have to be the Blue Farmer my bought me, as besides having a lot of sentiment attached to it, it's also a great knife :)

AS for Fixed Blade, then it'd have to be my Cold Steel Ghurka Kukri :), I've yet to sample a stronger knife that is capable of such utter destruction >:D
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Not sure what I would not ever give up.... Maybe my Russlock or my Native. Both have sentimental value.

I'll play devil's advocate here  >:D

As much as I like my knives and tools they are all just objects, there's none of them I couldn't live without.  I don't really even have a knife I overly prefer to any other these days.  This can of course make choosing one before leaving the house a bit tricky and often ends up being a random grab :)

Folder would be this one:

Makes a great utility knife and Spyderco always inspires confidence in their quality for me.

Fixed Blade:

Quality fixed blade that may not be the best in utility use but will get the job done and would make for a great SD blade as well...besides, its pretty to look at  :D

Don't you even have one that has sentimental value?  My Master Hunter (although a superb blade) means so much because of what it represents.

My new Umnumzaan for me.  But to be honest, I don't have it with me right now because it's being stonewashed.  But I'll live.  I have my MSC Strider RCC with me at the moment.  :D

There are knives I prefer over others both practically and sentimentally but to stick with Nick's original question...  "Whats the one blade that you could not live without?" ... that doesn't exist :)

So many knives, each with subtle variations.. nope, can't pin just one down. Sorry to be dull.  :-\

That's fair enough.  Until I got the above I wouldn't have been able to chose either.

From looks alone (you will know better as you have had both) I still prefer the Sebbie.

I like being able to take it all apart too.

Sebbie, Sebbie, Sebbie, phoohy!!  :D  Ben, CRK is going to offer a take down tool for the Umnumzaan fairly soon. I talked to them about it a couple of weeks ago.

All joking aside, I love the Sebbie. I'm going to buy a small one sometime next year. I wish they would make a small Umnumzaan, but it doesn't look like its going to happen. :(

That's a shame as I find my small Sebbie the perfect size for EDC.

Knife I couldn't live without... The only one I own that has any real sentimental value would be the Tinker my grandfather gave me when I was 12 or 13.

I have plenty of other knives that I love to have, and enjoy immensely. I love the relatively maintenance-free nature of my Pacific Salt. I like the ergos, blade shape, and F&F on my pardue mini-grip. I like the heft and quality vs price of my Wally World Buck 110 and 371. My Charge TTi and SAKs are all handy to have in any situation. There are none that I could never do without. I would just find another knife to use, and leave it at that.
