Scale changer badge bid
on: November 16, 2019, 11:32:36 AM
I’ve replaced scales before on my Master Craftsman/Astronaut to blue + and on my Golfer to emerald +, but documented the process. So thanks to a bargain on Amazon I bought a Swiss Champ for half price, and as I have a spare set of emerald +, time to give it the T4 treatment!

All set, the tools are a PBSwisstool bradawl and the can-opener on my trusty Master Craftsman/Astronaut:

First the bradawl enters the scale at a tool notch and opens the way for the can opener to finish lifting off the scale

Next, clean off the small bits of dwarf off, and clamp on the replacement scales with hands alone

This leaves a small gap to be closed up, and as I’m no where strong enough to do it on my own, it’s time for rubber jaws on my vice

Gently does it until the scales are fully home on the rivet lugs. Next put the tools back into the + scales and admire your handiwork - a T4 scaled Swiss Champ!

:tu: Nice work Rizio!  Looks like c. '99-'00 vintage scales.  I always like the way those back plus scales look.

Thanks for the info on dates, Kamakiri, didn’t know that they were that old, but when I saw them I bought 2 pairs - never seen knives with emerald + in UK market, I found the scales on eBay USA a few years ago. Thanks again!
