Brooks B190 Leather Cycling Saddle
on: May 21, 2013, 06:33:56 AM
Has anyone used a Brooks B190 cycling saddle? Hefty price tag, wonder how many multitools I would have to trade to get one. Comes highly recommended for butt comfort, especially for those of us with wider sit bones.

(Amazon User Photo)

Length: 324mm
Width: 249mm
Height:135mm
Weight: 1850g

The B190 is the newest of our heavy duty saddles, featuring double rear coil springs and a double loop front spring. Seating comfort is accounted for by the largest leather top Brooks manufactures.

MADE IN ENGLAND

Roughly $194 at Amazon. About the price of the last dentist visit. I so need to hit a small lotto already! $10,000 would be nice, get the credit card paid off and get a recumbent trike.  :D  :tu:

Never heard a single bad word about Brooks' saddles. Can you not find one second hand?

Same here.  Everyone I know who has used them loves them.  They do need a good bit of time to break in though from what I hear.

+1

There is a theory that as part of the break-in process the rider's posterior is being toughened up at approximately the same rate as the saddle is being "broken-in"  ;)

Send e-correspondence to Brooks and they replied the next day:

We would recommend the B190 model.

$195 is a lot for a bicycle saddle. Then I poked around and found two videos on their saddle history & old age construction that still continues on to today.  :tu:  Also would require a seat sandwich that allows a 2 rail saddle to be fitted onto a cycling post.

Now I can see why these are so expensive. Guess they would not be interesting in a partial trade of a Wenger S557?

I've met a few people who swear by them, but my understanding is they take months of regular riding to break in, and they are hellish until they are broken in.  When I was in college and working as a bicycle mechanic, one of the owners of a shop I worked in for a while had a nick-name for Brooks saddles... he called them "prostate-pounders"...
