New Boxtree Style Adj Wrench multitool!
on: December 11, 2019, 09:25:54 AM
It looks really cool. Love the colors. But it looks like no pocket clip! NOOOO!  Why? The Boxtree had a pocket clip! I might have to go for a Crkt Guppy instead. Or nag this company to add pocket  clip

Looks like a nice tool, but too large for a pocket clip.   Maybe??

I carry the Surge with a pocket clip & its ok to me. I usually dont edc a big tool like this or a Surge but if im headed to a project that calls for it I use pocket clip carry. But a pocket clip has other uses. I can clip stuff to the "shelf" built into my car door. Or keep tools up & vertical on a tool belt pouch or in a tool bag. Being able to clip a tool somewhere is a big advantage imho. *Edit* here's a pic of work vehicle, this is one of many reasons I like pocket clips! Oops looks like I can't add pic in edit, ok see next reply

Pocket clips are great for work vehicle doors! Especially the home Depot "hand sanitizer pouch".

Great point! Did not think of that. I guess we cannot always take the term "pocket clip" literally!!

Just got one of these. I have not used it, but will give you initial impressions!

1. The tool seems well made. Finish on it is a bit better than some other tools I have handled like this, that came from Walmart.
2. The adjustable wrench part seems like it would work very well, and the bottom jaw does not fall off if you over loosen it!
3. The driver bits seem like they would work OK, but they rattle in the slot a bit. I was disappointed that standard 1/8 or 1/4 bits would not work. The two philips bits you get are an odd \ proprietary size so my bits from various tool sets will not work.
4. The pliers seem to be well designed for light duty tasks, but they make a bit of a grinding noise when opening and closing them. The handles on this thing are also pretty tight so unfolding them to get to the pliers is a bit difficult. Both of these issues may resolve themselves over time with use.
5. The knife came pretty sharp, but does not lock open, and neither does the can\bottle opener tool. The latter also has a flat driver on the end, but I am not sure how well the implement would hold up under any real torque. Again, would probably be OK for light duty jobs.

Anyhow, I had about $10.00 worth of Amazon points so I got a good deal on this, and I would say it is worth what I paid! Has anybody else tried this thing??

I carry all my big tools with a pocket clip. If they don't have a pocket clip, I add one. Gerber MP600 and Center drive I've added clips to and regularly carry them that way. The weight doesn't matter to me, I'm already a fatass and a few extra ounces isn't going to make much of a difference. I also routinely carry my Ozark Trail Multiforce, which is similar (but in many ways better than) the Wave. I don't really like sheath carry, so I rarely buy a tool that doesn't have a pocket clip, or can't be made to have one.

Charles.
