Day 19
Today is another Yeoman based Mod - my Mountain Yeoman.  This SAK was part of a trade with comis.  I got the better end, especially with all the effort he put into making the scales so awesome.

And they even glow

I think most of us have one of those knives whose justification is “It looks cool”
(Image removed from quote.)

That was my justification, when instead of a small, four-inch blade antique American-made hunting knife, I bough t(for about the same money) Camillus Marine Combat (their version of the Kabar) for $25. It is pretty tough, but way too danged big for 75% of my cutting chores.

Day 19.

Victorinox 84mm Craftsman. Like a Wenger Handyman, just rare, and quite often, a lot more expensive (mine came in a lot with a Wenger Master, a Victorinox Recruit, and some very high-quality leather belt sheaths for $40). But it's cooler and has better scissors.  It was a shelf queen for only a short time, despite its rarity. The smaller 84mm frame and the lack of lanyard ring mean it carries very well.  It's a bit of a mutt due to some repair work by Victorinox. The scales and scale tools are modern (I still have the original scales and tweezers put away), the large blade is from the 1980s (original was fine, just scratched badly), the scissors were jerry-rigged and busted (brass pin replacing screw, no spring) and thus got replaced with 1970s era scissors (which I'm surprised Vic still even had!). Liners have been replaced as well, likely owing to the fact they are prone to cracking as on the Ranger I showed earlier in this challenge.   This Craftsman has already seen a lot of use, being my main carry in the Fieldmaster challenge in February. It really hasn't been carried since for some reason.

Was my only carry today. Tools used; both blades for general cutting, as well as the can opener SD (tightening up stock on air rifle).

Day 16: Weird SAK-a-like with anvil cutters

This is a weird eBay find my friends. I snagged it for like seven dollars, and it's the most unique SAK-copy I've come across. While I've seen this type of pliers once or twice in the past, this is the first time I've ever seen a pair of actual anvil-type wire cutters on a SAK of any style. So of course I had to buy it. It came with completely smurfy springs and broke-ass scales, but I restored it with Victorinox springs and Schrade Century scales (I liked the sea green color and they're 100% compatible with Victorinox knives). This is in every way compatible with a 91mm Victorinox SAK. I bought it with modding in mind, and intended to put the wire cutters in a custom Victorinox SAK.  But you know, I've actually never seen another one of these in the last couple of years, so I'm not sure tearing it apart is the best idea. It's a copy yes, but it's unique and arguably rare. So for now I'm keeping it as-is.

All of the tools had huge bumps for the nail nicks, which actually got in the way of using the nicks. So I filed them down until each tool was easy to deploy. So it's not stock, and so even if it might be rare, it's not worth anything... but you know what? I made it eminently usable. The tools have no wobble and they're made out of decent steel. The quality is not Victorinox by any means, but it's actually not bad. It's way, way WAY better than the smurphy Coast knockoffs of the Cybertool. The wire cutter easily handles up to about 18ga wire. 16ga requires a bit more force, and 14ga requires a TON of force. (stranded copper of course). I was thinking the wire cutters would be excellent to add to a Victorinox Cybertool, to make a knife that's all about light electronics work. And I may still do that someday. But in the meantime, I'm enjoying bringing this out every now and then to work on an odd set of speakers or an old metronome.

If anyone knows any information about this knife, I'd love to hear more.

Charles.

Sometimes mutts are the best companion and some knifes just aren’t meant to be shelf queens.

The scales did come out awesome.  Comis did several different samples to get the final product.

The tools are that of a Yeoman plus the metal file/saw of the Mountaineer with the small chisel as the backside tool.

Day 20

I remembered growing up, young kids usually only had a few aspiration what they wanted to be when they grow up.  It was either policeman, fireman or astronaut.
Years later, the same question was posed to my college classmates in a foreign language class, and one kid told the class he had always wanted to be Gozilla growing up.  I still remembered sitting right next to him, and almost spilled my coffee that morning.

ZT470, though I never like carbon fibre in knife scale, I do like what Sinkevich did with this design.   The fine lines along the chassis is very signature of Sinkevich design, and I felt it was a great touch to give it more class.

Day 19: I think you're going to see a lot of SAKs and Leatherman from here on out.
My collection of Highlanders and Commanders.  I love the 1 and 2 layer 85mm Wengers with traditional scales.
Just the right size.  The three in the bottom left are the Commanders.
The top two on the right are Fire Highlanders, with the red translucent scales.  Prettiest two I have.
Close up of the old one with the bail and dogleg can opener and cut file.
What is the difference between a Fire highlanders vs highlander?

Day 19 C33 and Eldris

(Image removed from quote.)
I always think C33 is a great knife-tool offering from LM.

The CD was Bryan Adams “So Far, So Good”.   The funny thing was one of the songs on it had its own story from my college semester in Spain

The Juice is a great little tool and a lot of character as well.

Oh, Bryan Adams!  I still remembered the song "everything I do I do it for you" was such a hit, with the Robin Hood movie.

Day19
I'll look in my old desk drawer now moved and repurposed into a sewing table. This is all quick grab tools and a little bit of drawing and layout stuff kept handy for small projects. All this will probably be transferred to a new workbench when I get set up.

3 multi tools are visible in the photo:

A modified Leatherman Micra. By modified this had the plastic plastic shell which has broken off and replaced with washers for bolt spacing

The Stanley licence of the SOG Pocket Power Plier.

And the Shrade ST1 that was a gift from MTO member gerleatherberman during the Shrade tough 30 day challenge. My wife likes this one because the tools are accesable, so it will probably stay here for machine adjustments.

Comis
To answer your question about the hole in the etoh's blade...I do believe bieng an agricultural tool that the hole is meant for hanging.

Nice pair.  Never owned a Mora but they always strike me as a simple no frills good tool

They are that, and a good price too but for some reason the Eldris is more expensive, they are overpriced but sometimes they can be found for an ok amount

Another Maserin today, a lovely little Hawkbill Pruner... or rather it should be. This knife frustrates the hell out of me, what should be a highly desirable knife - a sub three inch stag Hawkbill - is ruined by sloppy workmanship and poor attention to detail on the fit n finish. Was a gift for the old man.
