Day 24. Victorinox Classic SD US Navy. Used it to fix a computer mouse. The Classic might be little, cheap, and well, probably the cheapest and easiest SAK to get, but it's quite capable. Of course, there is the Rambler and Pocket Toolchest.....

Day 20: A selection of Sodbusters

Today is my selection of Sodbusters. The top is a small "Jr" size from Aitor, with beautiful wood scales. I really enjoy this knife, and got it for a song on eBay. It came poorly sharpened - the grind wasn't even and it was something like 30 degrees on one side and 20 on the other. (what little there was). After a bunch of time on the Lansky, the knife is nice and sharp and holds an edge very well. It's a pleasure to use, having a nice strong backspring, good blade centering, and just a quality feel to it.

The next one is a Case Sodbuster, in the large 4.65" size. I got the red scales (although they're more red-orange in person) with the CV stonewashed blade. I carry this knife more than any other, and had my wallet pocket split by a tailor, just so I have a place to carry the knife. (the pocket also works well for smaller multitools like the Crunch). I love the smooth scales, the easy opening and closing, and the overall feel of the knife.

Finally, we have a cheapie Schrade large Sodbuster, IMP-22L. (The Jr. size is just IMP-22 without the "L"). This is... actually really good. The Case is far smoother to open and close, but the blade centering is good, there's no wobble or looseness in the pivot, the backspring is extremely strong, and it has a half-stop so it doesn't chop your fingers while closing it. The scales are plastic and satin finished instead of the case's glossy finish, with an "Imperial" metal logo inlaid. While opening and closing feels a little unrefined (the tang and backsprings could have used some smoothing and polishing), it's a very good knife and has taken a lot of abuse. I give these for christmas presents and I carry this if I ever think I might be in a situation where it might be confiscated or I might lose it. At $10 a pop (or $8 if you buy three at a time) they're the best deal on Amazon. The quality is just one step below Case, for a third the price.

Charles.

Day 24
Just realised I've mucked up my numbering and had two day 21s somehow .

Anyhoo, today is the Victorinox  bantam . Small enough to be carried in any clothes you care to name , but enough tools to get you out of an unexpected jam

Day 25

Today I will be carrying this CT34 mod which started life as a Cybertool Lite, but I removed the magnifier/led torch layer, and moved the bitholder layer to the middle where I find it easier to use - adding plus scales was the final touch. Much to my surprise, I found this quite an easy knife to re-assemble, unlike the Compact which is quite a fiddle to get the combitool and it’s spacer to sit still while tensioning the back spring and tool - it did teach me to cover the blade edge with tapes though - nippy, nippy!

McStitchy- only while doing the mod - stops you slicing yourself when assembling the knife with all tools out - I learned the hard way!

Day 25
A Sheffield British Army Knife
While in the Navy on a Carrier Strike Group Staff, we were doing an Multinational exercise called BALTOPS.  At the end of the exercise, most of the ships pulled into Kiel.  One of the British Officers, who I had communicated a lot with, and I did a trade.  I gave him a ship Zippo and he gave me this knife.  We sealed the deal over a Snake Bite.

That is a particularly nice Clasp Knife.  :tu: The large flathead/turnscrew at the end is genius invention and I don't understand why more knifes don't have that feature... at the very least it would save a lot of snapped blades.

Day 25 (or, trying to get myself back on the right time schedule for where I actually should be)

Today I give to you the Buffalo River survival knife. Bought when mightily impressed by Bear Grylls and his adventuring (and it being on sale in the store also helped). Feels comfortable and pleasingly secure in hand , with just enough weight and heft to get it done without being a dirty great cinder block. Not a huge fan of combi grinds , but it works well on this one , and the fire striker certainly does the business so easily a noob like me can start a fire no worries. Also the loud green handle means it stands out when you put it down and suffer temporary Alzheimer's as to where it was.  The sheath is also handy as you can clip the grey inner off the nylon and sling it by the sharpening stone /belt loop behind . A solid workhorse,  more about getting it done than looking pretty

Nice knife with a cool story :like:
I have to ask, what is a snake bite? :dunno:
I'm guessing you didn't get bit by a snake on purpose as that can be a pita.

Pretty! :like:

Hopefully one day, i'm OK in rough seas but this was something else, depends a lot on the boat of course but you know it's bad when even the locals are turning green  :D

(Image removed from quote.)

Cat and Pioneer for scale, need two hands for this one  :D

(Image removed from quote.)

That's just the sort of thing i am looking for, i much prefer that to both on the same blade :like:
Wow!  Is this one carbon steel? :pok:   I have heard many workers in meat plant would prefer good old victorinox Nessmuk for work.

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

In all seriousness, that is a nice looking knife
Someone's on a roll today!

DAY 24
Gerber Prodigy and its sidekick, the Leatherman Skeletool.
Practical combo.  :tu:

My favorite modern knives at the moment are Spydercos. There are a lot of good knife companies out there producing good knives but Spyderco have been my favorite since about 2008. I think the Spyderco Military is one of the best knives ever to come down the pike. While it doesnt get in many pics these days I still carry one a lot.. I have one clipped to the waist band of my short breeches at the moment.    :D
That's a solid suggestion and choice. :like:   I think Military is one of those "milestone" for Spyderco, like Griptilian for Benchmade.  I have gotten a good deal on a full Ti Military couple years back, but I think nowadays I prefer the PM3 even more than PM2.

Day 25

Deadpool x Batman  :D

I think Flippers have gained a lot of momentum in past couple of years, this one is Liong Mah Warrior 2.  I really like how all the straight lines/curves lined up--the flipper tab form a continuous choil with the guard, the top handle lines extend all the way up to the trailing point, plunge line runs parallel to the pommel area.  Also the milled out lightweight handles make it perfect balanced on index finger.  All in all, I think Kizer knocks this one out of the park.

Today I'm carrying a Workpro 15-in-1 multitool.  Its a pretty decent MT for $17.99 shipped on Amazon Prime.  Comes with nice, heavy duty cordura belt sheath.

DAY 25

Well today is our 26th wedding Anniversary and I’ve got the day off work. A nice relaxing day and I can’t see me needing much in the way of knives except maybe a bottle opener so this standard MP600 has easily got that covered
