Day1
No I didnt forget...just a little busy (but Ive made it before midnight)

So I am starting with a Mora ProS
A couple years ago a family member asked about a knife that could stand up to water and chemicals of pool matinence. I had been looking at the ProS for a while and figured bieng designed for salsmurfer it may work; so I ordered two and gave him one.

Mine has become the go to for a lot of craft work and normaly lives on my tool racks rather than with the collection.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Wow - what a great start, everyone!

Day 1

I’m going to start with my newest knife, a Victorinox Farmer X, who’s main blade opens a long-awaited package from Myron containing my BYSAK a Wenger M61 red-scale soldier - many thanks indeed, Myron!  :woohoo:

Congrats on finding the BYSAK!

Nice start everyone :tu:

Day 1  Helle Nying and Karesuando Singi

Nice to be out and a cool picture! :like:

Day 01:

The first knife that caught my eye this morning was the Victorinox Cadet. I love this knife!

(Image removed from quote.)
I think your minimalist SAK carry has influenced many on this forum, I still look forward to carry an Executive in a future challenge some day. :tu:

DAY 1. Wanted to go with my old 34OT today, but I had some hard work to do. Fences have to be fixed tommorow, so guess I'll need another big blade. Plus, this knife not only had the number "1" on it, the brand is "FIRST" Tactical.

Years ago, a company (whom I've presumed is also owned by whoever owns First Tactical) a horse gear company called Noble Outfitters/Equine (they've switched between both names every couple years) called the Arena Knife, which was a blunt tip "EMT" type knife intended to save your bacon if you get caught up in a stirrup, or perhaps your horse. What I really liked was it's "Cobra Hood" type feature, the First Tactical/Vellekamp "Thumb Bridge".   The Noble knife never went  on sale, and I never got it until after it was discontinued.  This one was on sale for $25, and uses D2 steel. The D2 and "Thumb Bridge" were what drew me to it.  I didn't really like the recurve, or the linerlock.  This is my "cheap beater" knife. This is strong enough to take the worst of what I do, but if some moron borrows and ruins it, I am not out much. People are comparing it to Benchmades. No, heck no, not even close. More like import CRKT or Kershaw. That is my opinion. That being said, despite being 8CR13MOV, the CRKT Crawford Kasper is my go to "big OHO work knife". Under $20 too.

At 4 3/4" closed, it's a big boy. Blade is too big to really carry in public, so it is relegated to being a work knife. Handles are G-10, not plastic. Huge plus there in my view. Plastic or aluminum is almost all you see in sub-$50 knives.

(Image removed from quote.)

I'm a big fan of its clip. Deep Carry is my go-to clip style.

(Image removed from quote.)

Here's what I meant about the linerlock. It is maybe 1/8 from being flush. Only the jimping peeks above the handle.

(Image removed from quote.)

Used this knife to cut weed eater string, some overgrown bushes and grass behind the garage, and cutting some grass out of a blueberry bush in the orchard. It cannot do pull cuts very well, and hurt like heck. Guess tommorow, it's back to a hawkbill.

(Image removed from quote.)

And since I mentioned it, a photo of the Noble which I have yet to own. I like the fact that it is a back-lock too.

(Image removed from quote.)

I like this First Tactical design the best, and since it's on sale for $45, am about ready to pull the trigger on it. It uses the same AUS-8 steel and a PE version of the same blade as the Arena Knife, but is PE, and adds a strap cutter. It also has the same clip I like on the Krait.  I love strap cutters on my knives. I was originally going to buy this model, but the Krait was much cheaper. I will be yanking out the seat ruiner and hot spot glass breaker, though.

It's interesting to hear about the stirrup knife existed.

I would totally gotten it if I should have known such knife existed--long, long time ago when I was riding horses regularly; I started off with a really bad habit of wrapping the rein around my hands and was being taught it was a mistake I need to correct.

It didn't register in my stubborn mind until one day a horse decided to go hysterical, thrown me off to the ground and started dragging me around the entire arena for few minutes like a cowboy movie.  Needless to say I learnt my lesson the hard way, and I listen to whatever the old lady told me to do, down to the letters.  This stirrup knife could totally came in handy that day.

Ok, I will confess that, despite realizing that would have been very scary at the time, the visual I had does give a little chuckle.  Thinking of a big tough cowboy wiping off dirt with a sheepish look while some little old lady scolds him for not listening to previous instructions.

Fuzzy Discharge Day 1

Unfortunately, I'm still separated from my stash down south. There is however, probably enough stabby stuff kicking about the farmhouse here to get going with - a lot's from my formative years that doesn't get carried anymore, the rest inherited bits and bobs from the dearly departed.

Anyway, here's a little liner lock I picked up years ago in a lovely little fishing shop in Pitlochry, Highland Perthshire. It was the first one hand opening knife I'd ever encountered, up until that point I had no idea such a mechanism existed, and actually it was also my first liner lock, again something I was not familiar with... So I think an appropriate knife to begin the challenge with... Oh, and a pretty little damselfly...

Looks like a solid little knife. Sweet pictures Fuzzy  :like:

I've been to that shop, and it hosted one of the few assembly machines there.  Absolutely fascinating and definitely worth booking a session to make your own SAK, if time permits. :tu:

Day 2

Top Doug Ritter Griptillian, Bottom 940 Osborne

I feature these two knives together because they have so much resemblance to each other in spec, but totally different style.  These two both are Benchmade classics--both have axis lock, perfect balance at index finger, 3.4" blade and similar handle at 4.4" and 4.6".  Yet one is slim in profile and the other would fill up the hand nicely.

Day 2

Continuing with my Day 1 Girl Scout, here is part of my Girl Scout knife collection.  The Girl Scouts were a big part of my growing up and so as I got older and into collect some things, Girl Scout knives were one of those.

They are arranged left-to-right in what I believe is oldest to newest.  All of these are Utica Knives with the exception of the Ulster which is the oldest knife in my collection.  The Utica knives are hard to date because they were limited runs that were not in the catalogs.

1 - Ulster four blade stag handle camp knife - est late 1930s probably 1939, this one entered my collection because a member here knew I liked and collected Girl Scout knives and pointed it out to me.
2 - Utica camp knife with molten Mother of Pearl Scales - this is estimated as being late 1940s, possibly early 50s
3 - Utica 2 blade Featherweight with bone stag handle.  The emblem is pinned onto the handle - made between 1948-1956.  This one is also thanks to the same member on this forum
4 - Utica 2 blade with imitation stag handle - most likely made in 1960s but possibly as early as 1956.  The emblem on this knife is just a trefoil shape with “GS”
5 - Utica camp knife - this knife was 1967/8 but the design was made as early as 1948 until 1971.  It is the style knife that my Mom remembers most from when she was a child

Day 2: Traditional and regional, awl wrapped into one. A portuguese corta-e-pica (cut and stab). It's the only tool people needed in the fields or while taking care of cattle, in the plains.

Pfrsantos, your post just reminded me a post DKS made long while ago about his trip to Lisbon.  Is there particular brand that you would recommend which will best represent this pattern or even the Country?  (like when someone mention Victorinox, people would associated it with Switzerland, or Mora to Sweden, etc)

Nice selection so far people. I'm sorry I can't be part of this one as it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.  I really like the Girl Scout knives Sos.  pfrsantos that is possibly the best rendition of a Hobo knife I've ever seen. I'd love to have one.
