Day 5

Today is the first quality single blade folder that I bought myself - Benchmade Osbourne.  This knife spent a lot of time in my pocket on ship.  Usually keeping company with a Gerber Mr. Pinchy (which is somewhere around, but not sure where).  This knife opens so easily with a flick of wrist that I do not even have to touch the thumb studs.

One of my all time favorites!  :tu:  :like:

That knife is what got me into Benchmade knives and learning what a quality knife was.
I couldn’t afford the Osbourne so I bought a Griptilian

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Here some time ago, a member here listed several Benchmades for $50; all in very good condition. I bought a Mini Griptillian, which for me, was my first Benchmade (not counting the Rescue Hooks I already owned). It is my primary EDC folder these days, replacing more mid-end models. It will put any mid-end folder to shame--it is even better than my Kershaw Leek (the other tactical I carry these days). Extra marks for the AXIS Lock being friendly to use and carry with the right or left size. I'm left handed, so left front pocket carry.  It is 154CM, and I can't wait to try an S30V version.

Both my stolen Grip and current Grip are D2 models. Since I started carrying a SAK I just fell out of folders. Also had a Snap-On series Leek, I never could get used to it and gifted it away. If I didn’t gift some many knives away I would probably be in this months challenge

They are nice knives. The funny thing is that after that one I never really got into Benchmade.  I discovered Kershaw then Zero Tolerance and became a fan of flippers.

One of my all time favorites!  :tu:  :like:

It is my favorite Benchmade and withstood a lot of abuse.

Before the Grip I had a Kershaw Blur. A friend of mine said to me “that assisting spring inside will last a year”. I laughed. It lasted a year. After that I haven’t wanted/needed an assisted opener. But I wanted a quality folder. First time I flipped the 940 I fell in love but didn’t have the funds at the time (12 years ago maybe) so I tried the Grip and bought it. I did warranty the blur. Then gifted it away

Day 5
Today is the current version of my necklace. I have worn a small SAK as a necklace for 20 years now. My original was a Winger Esquire and a photon coin light; this current one is a mini champ and an Olight.
Given that my EDC is an OHTrekker and ST300 having something was smaller tools is often welcome.

I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

I have a couple assisted openers but got away from them as well.  A few of my flippers snap open just as smoothly and firmly as an assisted opener but just with pivot bearings.

This is a recent clip point craze acquisition, the Civivi Rustic Gent with damascus.  Really like the workmanship of this knife, the bolster and scale is tastefully done and perfectly even, Civivi purposefully left the burlap micarta slightly rough for a tactile feel.  I much prefer the design and execution of this knife than the Lionsteel traditionals.

Just stepping away for 12 hours, and we are 4 pages advanced!   So many good photo and posts!

Some lovely knives here!

Day 5

This is my Leatherman Flair, bought on a whim in the late 1990s as I thought it would be good for picnics seeing as it has a corkscrew, bottle opener, sharp knife, spreading knife and mini fork. However, didn’t take me long to break the bottle opener which has a small piece of yellow metal to hold it in place when levering crown corks off - it bent very quickly and now the opener bends back till it hits the hinge stop - it still functions, just at an odd angle!  Ah well, time for an Erdinger dunkel! Cheers everyone!

Fancy!  I have a PST, but no where near this cool looking Flair.  :like:

:tu: While i'm glad to have it in my collection it's not the most comfortable knife to use, i don't find it very user friendly at all but that's to do with hand size, the handle is a tad on the small side

In Fools of April 2 i had the idea of going for it, started it and promptly lost the spring tension rod, project got put on the back burner then i found the rod a couple of months ago, very happy with how it turned out now  :tu:

Day 5 Camillus 66 and FM Mattsson Mora, The 66 i won in a GAW here, courtesy of David and sent out by Nix, real nice Knife   the Mora is so small you cant not love it  :tu:

What a lovely set of knives, the modded 110 scale is a real eye catcher!  Great job! :tu:

Day 5: Chose the Queen #63 Railsplitter, American Walnut. Produced in 2015; and I've had it pretty much ever since then. Only Queen I owned for quite a few years. D-2 is hard to sharpen, but for a work knife, is pretty much where it's at. Edge was pretty bad when I got it (this was not long before they went under, at a time their quality was also notoriously bad), then I dinged the sheepsfoot blade (cut into metal hammer head hafting a new handle for it). Recently, I picked up the Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener, and it works pretty well I'll admit. May have to replace the strop, messed it up accidentally pushing, not pulling the blade across it.

Personally, in a lot of ways, I prefer the Railsplitter over Stockman. The handle is just large enough for my uses. It is also comfortable during very heavy cutting. I know Queen did make 1095 versions, so I might try those soon. I'm hoping there's a Moore Maker version.

(Image removed from quote.)
Cody, how do you like this WS Field Sharpener?  I know it is widely popular, but I always think it is very gimmicky.  For one, the angle guide is totally 'misleading' and the whole package is a little too clumsy.  I'd much rather stick with something smaller in profile such as Spyderco double stuff or the DMT dual-side sharpener 'pedal'.

Charles, sorry couldn't get to your earlier post faster, but welcome to Unleashed challenge and great to have you!

I like the story behind this knife and I bet it brings back good memory whenever you see the insignia.  I always think there is more to the hobby than merely chasing the latest and the best.

This wee tacker lives in my fishing tackle box as it's handy for small bait cutting type chores,  snipping line or crimping trace etc together .
