Day 6: This is a model I've known for ages. My grandfather had one for working in the field. The design is very old, I think it's one of those traditional knives nobody really knows where they started. Here, it's called a Foiçado (from Foice / Sickle).

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

Same here. Pretty much the "man card" around here is a hawkbill. If you've worked in the coalmines, chances are, you've got one.   I have a few, from my Granddad (worked in and around the mining industry for nearly 30 years), gifts from friends (all miners), bought new and used. Granddad gave me an old beat up one he'd used as his work EDC, and I discovered how great they were. They'll cut almost as well as a serrated knife (and in some cases, better), while being easier to sharpen.

Gonna have to get one of those. As of late, I have noticed the traditional European "pruner" blade shape is a bit more effective than our less drastic "hawkbill" shape seen in the USA.  I, however, don't like the handle shape of most of those have. This couples the hawbill handle shape (and shackle/bail) with the better blade shape of a traditional European pruning knife.

DAY 6
TOPS Moccasin Ranger.  I've carried it a few times, but it has never been my first choice for any chores.  Looks cool, though!

Agree.  It is a very cool looking knife.

Day 2:

So today I was going to post a pic of my knife, but instead I think I’m going to go with this screwdriver “blade”.

My brother closed on his house earlier this week, and today the movers showed up with all his stuff. Of course I was the only person with tools, so I was the one to reassemble the baby grand piano (legs and pedals) with my SOG PowerAccess.

Not the right tool for these massive flat screws, and it was at the limit of this small tool in terms of flex and thickness of the driver. But it went together well enough.

Plus who gets to say they put together a grand piano with nothing but a small multitool!

Used the blade to open packages and the opener on beers and on a wall plate to see what the deal was with all the random Ethernet ports.

I really love this tool. It’s not the most comfortable in the hand, but I’ve used every single tool on it in the month or so I’ve had it, and it’s supremely portable and far lighter than I thought it would be. The blade is long and narrow, but I find it actually a super useful shape. I think it’s now my favorite lightweight multitool for EDC.

Charles.

Great use.  Too often it is more about the tool you have than he “perfect” tool for the job

Day 06 (follow-up to the bonus action shot from earlier):

I figure I owe you guys a shot of the completed chicken (and it's a good excuse to sneak in an extra shot of the fabulous Benchmade 940.). The chicken got a rub of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and ground cumin. It then had a 45 minute spa treatment on a hot grill. Here it is served up with a little olive oil and some chopped chives from the garden:

It was better than it looks.

Some really nice knives today, I especially liked the shared history.

D-Day 6

In honor of the anniversary of D-Day here are a couple of knives issued to our soldiers and sailors    :salute:

Camillus engineers knife and a  PAL Navy Utility knife

      (Image removed from quote.)
Nice pair.

DAY 6 ( part 2)

While I knew it was the Anniversary of D Day my brain never made the connection of posting a tribute as part of this challenge this morning

So here we have a knife that I am proud to be the current owner of , a Fairbairn Sykes early 3rd Pattern Commando dagger. This one has a hand ground blade , No. 2 mould number on the handle and the guard is marked with the Broad Arrow and the letter I which indicates it was made for the Indian Stores. All this points to it being made by the famous Wilkinson Sword Company.

Also featured is a 1943 British Jack knife and a No. 36 M MK 1 Mills bomb also dated 1943.

139A5450-7900-46E3-B62A-0163D3054D59 by Duncan Moore, on Flickr

Great piece of history.

Day 06

Some Camillus WWII knives:

Army Engineer Knife
Army Air Corp Knife
Navy Utility Knife
Merchant Marine Sailors Knife

Awesome set of WWII Camillus

Day 6. While not a WWII USN MKI Deck Knife, this particular Camillus was assembled post-war, from parts left over. Steel guard, leather handle, Bakelite pommel held in with spanner nut.  I paid just over $10 shipped for it on eBay in March of last year. It's obviously seen better days. I had laid it out for last month's SOldier challenge, but never used it.

I was doing some cleaning to the furniture and put the freshly sharpened knife to work cutting up this worn out T-Shirt to make cleaning cloths. Might look like crap, but it still works fine. I think this knife has been upgraded from the "Wait, why did I buy this piece of junk" box to the user pile.

(Image removed from quote.)

It may be post-WWII but still a nice bit of history.

Day 6

I thought I’d go with the SwissTool Spirit for today.  There isn’t much story behind this one, just seeing so many pictures and great comments about the Spirit on here.  I couldn’t resist when I found a used one for a great price.  It is now my favorite multitool.

Day 7 (aka Ice cream Sunday)

Burnley kwaiken

There was a trend for slim profile knife few years ago, and I can understand why it became popular.  Slim, nice flipper, easy in the pocket, all good.

DAY 7

As promised on Friday evening here is the object which was under my bed wrapped in a bin liner.

A friend of mines son works in road construction in London , mains water supply to be more precise. Now one day they were digging the road up to replace old water pipes that were 90 years old , as they uncovered the old pipe laying on top of it was this French bayonet. What was it doing there ? Who knows but it’s been down there for 90 years  :o my only guess was it was a WW1 bring back and at some point the owner wanted to or had to get rid of it.

Yes it’s a  Model 1866, Chasseport, Yataghan Sword bayonet made at the St Etienne armoury. This one is dated 1892.

Awesome day six with all the commemoratives.

Day 7.
Ek commando Bowie from the Blackjack era. Had one Ek made from late eighties but had to hock it. It was a better knife than this one. This has had some mods by me. Still a really solid knife.

Powernoodle Day 7

Cold Steel Voyager Vaquero XL serrated.  I picked up this Farberware ceramic kitchen knife to play with.

This is my first ceramic blade.  It is quite strange.  Glasslike, sharp, light weight, and apparently susceptible to breakage if you aren't careful.
