DAY 25
Hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.

Made a little adjustment on a Fuji apple tree that was beginning to lean over fairly bad over the course of the last year.  This is the second adjustment in 3-4 weeks.  I have it straight up after this one, and I may do one more that has it leaning the other direction a bit after a few weeks so that when I let off it should hopefully come to rest straight up.  Amazing how tight the knots become on paracord when a little pressure is held constant over a few weeks (plus the element of moisture).  Had to cut through a couple knots to get this old setup loose enough to do a new one.  I have quite a few fruit trees on my property and have had to do this more than once.  I think the biggest problem is I'm on a mountain peak and the wind is almost always out of the west which results in an easterly tilt on some trees.

Happy Memorial Day all.

Using the stag GAK to get a fire going.
I'm not trying to tell you how to do it, but I don't think that firesteel will ever make sparks  :P

The 108 mm “stag GAK” helping with breakfast duties.   This is a Vx GAK o bought 2nd hand from a great member here.  I removed the saw/opener layer and fashioned the scales out of white tail deer antler.

Nice mod.  I was never a fan of the scales of the 108mms, but I think that's a good size for all-round work.

Good work and pics, everyone!

Day 25

Up at 6, quick 30km ride (it’s a holiday here!), breakfast then helped a friend shift 2 tons of bricks from his front drive to the back garden where they’re needed - hot work! Time for ‘71’s bottle opener to do his duty! Managed to order Farmer X When they appeared at 8.00 UK time after the ride - I’ll feel the effects of today tomorrow for sure.....

Happy memorial day everyone! Here is a retroactive photo for day 24. I carried it all day but was so tired from driving I forgot to post. I know I don’t get a badge, but might as well finish it out.

And here’s a photo for day 5. We actually went out and did something fun at the drive-thru zoo.

Day 25:

The USS Helena (CL-50) was a Light Cruiser commissioned in December of 1939:

She was damaged during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor by an errant torpedo. Despite being seriously damaged, her crew manned their anti-aircraft guns and put up a ferocious defense against subsequent Japanese air attacks (Helena was credited with shooting down several Japanese attackers).

Repaired and updated, the USS Helena served valiantly at Guadalcanal and Cape Esperance. She was torpedoed in the battle of Kula Gulf and sunk on 06 July 1943. While most of the crew were saved by accompanying destroyers, 168 sailors lost their lives.

Day 25

Slicing up a snack.  In case anyone hasn't tried to cut a mango - all you have to do is cut down both sides of the big seed in the middle (almost like filleting a fish). Then you can just eat each of the halves with a spoon.  If you're alone, you can clean up the additional fruit off the seed in whatever way you think you need to.

I hope everyone had a peaceful and reflective Memorial Day, and those who have lost a Soldier had a chance to remember them in the way that they would want to be remembered.

Fuji apples are some great tasting apples for sure! On my top 5.

Day 25. Somehow misplaced the Demo Knife around the house. It did use it today, moving a bucket containing table scraps I didn't want to touch by hand, as they smelled bad. The bottle opener worked great for that.  Yeah, the multipurpose hook is the only tool I miss when using another frame size.

So, here's 1942 again,  as it has only been featured once before during the challenge. Been thinking about getting it fixed up, but I am very curious as to what this knife has seen in its nearly 80-year history.   Supposedly, the guy here in the States that had it originally was in the Navy.

Some great pics on this thread!

Day 26

Back in the home office today, so Soldier ‘05 helped out by unscrewing the battery lid when the trackpad batteries ran out of juice, at an inconvenient moment naturally (the batteries not the SAK which was well up to the task!)
