Dye Nylon Scales

Has anyone tried dying nylon SAK scales? Any ideas or tips or warnings not to try?  :D

Black nylon scales. Or a deep burgundy. Why wouldn't you?

I know you can buy aftermarket but I've tried and they're not as good in hand as those great Victorinox nylon scales.

I've ordered some RIT synthetic dye, they didn't have black, just graphite but I still think that it should have a nice effect with the red. According to the RIT site, mixing graphite with red should be close to black anyway. Very dark with hint of red would be very cool. Here's to hoping!

I will, there might possibly be an Ecoline Waiter that I have my eye on (I have to be careful, the wife is around) but it depends on being able to achieve darker scales, it's to be a suit knife and the red looks too common place for posh wear?

After an unfortunate bottle opening accident due to trying to use the spine of my traditionals blade to open a beer (it was closed but I slipped and gouged my knuckles badly on the cap) I've decided that perhaps I need something designed for the job even when wearing a suit. Just maybe.  I'm also getting a bit fed up of the carbon blade on my little GEC #18 which although looking incredible, requires constant maintenance to keep the dreaded ugly patina at bay.

You could always go with a Compact and black plus scales. That would add a layer, but also utility

I like Nylon, cellidor doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. :) You're right of course about the utility but I'm not going from a tiny little pocket knife to a two layer.

I can understand that. That kinda limits your options, at least on the Vic side. Have you tried to look into the Wenger side? I don‘t know those models well enough to make a recommendation though  :dunno:
